Taliban Reconquista

If Bush popped him in the first 6 months, may he pulls out but didn’t it take like 8 years to track him down and kill him? Cuz I distinctly recall that being on Obama’s watch not Bush.

Problem was that we flushed him out, made him run.

No, we should have wanted him to relax. Make himself comfortable. Try to re-enter his life.

I don’t think the American public would have been willing or able to play the long game on taking out Osama bin Laden. We’d drop a bunker busting bomb on him if we knew where to place it.

Well, using intelligence info instead of taking over a whole country seems less expensive.

Of course, it’s wiser to play the long game. But America’s biggest city looked like a warzone, we were ready to go to war.

Clinton had that chance and wouldn’t authorize it.

Yeah, a sad thought.

So deploy resources to deal with the backlog, at least the backlog of Afghani applicants. BEFORE the pre-announced date to pull out.

You mean the anti-immigrant Trump administration shouldn’t have gutted the state department clearing those visas before setting a 5/1/21 pull out date or that Biden administration dealing with the border “crisis” should have diverted more resources from Covid and us border issues to expedite clearing Afghanistan Visa applications?

So the US state department on April 27 says everyone that can get out of the country and work remotely should. Then on June 28 they raise the level to Do Not Travel, the highest risk level. Why were so many Americans still there in August?

There are ~40 million people in Afghanistan. Conservatively 4 million of them are at high risk of being targetted by the Taliban. So the US should fly 4 million people out to the US?

There’s states that have all kinds of open space and no one around.

There’s also Kentucky and West Virginia, which are largely dirt poor so adding some people there could arguably raise the standard of living in each.

And at 640 which is what was actually on the plane that the picture came from to not more than 1000 per plane, I don’t think we can realistically assume we can fly all of them or even a significant portion of them out. Even if we were willing to bring them all to the US.

Yeah

lol

OK, if they manage 16,000 per day on a continual basis I guess it would only take 250 days at that rate to get 4,000,000 people out. Though that is going to take us a little beyond the 8/31 deadline.
