So uh, do you guys think Putin will invade Ukraine or what

If you mean that Putin/Trump (Trutin? Putump?) will point out how the Ukrainians are winners in all of this . . . then ITA.

Yes, Putin should be happy.

Only silver lining is that the killing stops, for now.

They would probably end up with a Northern Ireland type situation.

That would not be surprising given the number of Ukrainians who have already died fighting for their independence.

It seems bold of Trump to exclude Ukraine and the EU from the negotiations and place demands on both of them. I feel like there may be blowback.

He does realize the Ukraine doesn’t have to listen to him doesn’t he?

Could send military aid to Russia instead of Ukraine to help speed the process along

Yeah, I don’t think that Ukraine had a choice to “go into” that war.

They should have just let Vlady have whatever he wanted, which is what Trump will immediately agree to in his “negotiations”.

Right, but they need to get their weapons from somewhere and if the U.S. bows out that’s a big deficit to make up.

I was interested in how much that actually was.

I found this: https://www.ifw-kiel.de/fileadmin/Dateiverwaltung/IfW-Publications/fis-import/b4fc1b48-fe53-4dd0-804b-3157f2125483-Research_Note_-_June_2024.pdf

If I’m reading page 5/21 correctly, the US has supplied just under 50% of the aid .

Much blowback from Europe.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said a Russian drone struck the destroyed nuclear power plant at Chernobyl on Thursday night.

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service later said that the radiation background limits remain within normal limits.

“A Russian attack drone with a high-explosive warhead struck the shelter protecting the world from radiation at the destroyed 4th power unit” at the plant, Zelensky said on X.

The concrete shelter that covers the unit was damaged, Zelensky added, and a fire was extinguished. “Radiation levels have not increased and are being constantly monitored. According to initial assessments, the damage to the shelter is significant,” Zelensky said.

Perhaps Ukraine should “relocate” that radioactive material to Putin’s home.

(No, that’s not a real suggestion.)

hahaha this guy has obviously lost his marbles.

The US military is over-extended as is.

They can do nothing about Ukraine other than feed them weapons.

Ukraine wants a security guarantee. That means boots on the ground (so proximity wins thus EU) and Ukraine needs to be brought into the EUs and NATOs protective envelope.

This is mostly a resource grab by Trump and his backing cronies. They see $$$ in the mineral resources Ukraine has.

Zelensky knows full well that anything agreed with Trump is not worth the paper its written on. Trump will back-stab Ukraine eventually and likely give more territory to Russia.

If I were the EU, I would start playing hardball. There is a lot that can be done on the ground if the EU wants to get nasty. I don’t think its a good idea in the long-run to simply let Trump run around like a rabid bully with no response. Sooner or later you have to punch him in the face to get the point across.

The under-arching point is that the US is not our ally with Trump and his cronies around. Thats the new reality.

And yes, thats also means the EU needs to spend a lot more ln defense (this is happening now).

Unfortunately, this means a new type of cold war with high defense spending necessary for protection as Russia will become increasingly belligerent with Trump around.

Ukraine was given a security guarantee when they agreed to surrender their nukes. And now we are not honoring that guarantee.

Which is precisely why Zelensky doesn’t trust Trump.

Ukraine got screwed last time.

EU also shares some of the blame as they cosied up far too much to Putin for cheap energy.

Putin played the long-game and laid a trap for Germany.

My main concern here is that Germany is desperate for peace because their economic situation is not great right now (higher energy costs have done a number on them).

Letting Russia walk away with 19% of Ukrainian territory is a really bad idea as they will be back for more later on.
