Well the characters on the show aren’t supposed to notice when they change actors. It’s supposed to be seamless… one character the whole time.
I think even as a kid I understood that, although I’m not sure when I first noticed one. Maybe Jennifer in Back To The Future??? I was a teenager by the time I saw the second movie with the new Jennifer.

Uh, that’s not exactly claiming that the answer is 3. In fact, after the owl (clearly wrongly) proclaims it’s 3 the announcer says actually “the world may never know”. Implication being that you just can’t get through it while resisting the urge to bite it as the owl did.
I don’t recall being confused by that as a kid.
tbh though as a kid i had no concept of “acting” and i thought villains on tv were real villains and heroes real heroes
