Hawks will appreciate 10 days until the next game.
I stand by my above comment. Stafford was awesome again tonight.
Very nice finish. Going for two was the correct decision. ESPN is calling it “gutsy.” If they tie, they are behind the LAR in the standings, hoping to play better the last two weeks than LAR. If they lose, they are behind the LAR, have to play A LOT better than LAR.
Going for one XP:
- Might miss it, losing. Note that the LAR kicker missed. Shitty weather.
- Make it, then give the ball back with 3m to play, possibly losing or tying. Both of which are worse than winning.
So, why “gutsy”?
That first (or was it the second?) go-for-two didn’t seem to me a “lateral”. But I haven’t seen it “my way,” as I was playing stupid-poker with buddies. Had to watch it live.
From ESPN:
Before this game, the Seahawks were 0-155-0 all time when trailing by 16-plus points in the fourth quarter, according to ESPN Research.
What is the best record of this? SEA only been in the league for 50 years. Has anyone won more than 1% of these games? Figure 5% might be the high.
Week 17:
Next weekend, SEA has a chance to be shown locally, as LAR and LAC are playing MON and SAT, respectively.
Other CBS games are shit:
PIT at CLE (eliminated)
NO (eliminated) at TEN
NYG (eliminated) at LV (eliminated).
It was a totally logical decision for the reasons you gave. Did not want to put the ball back in Stafford’s hands.
Seattle vs Carolina is huge for both teams.
Hearing that a tie was no better than a loss for the ‘Hawks, I would’ve to for the 2 point conversion and either won or loss at that point in time.
Wasn’t there like 3:00 left? The odds of them winning without going for 2 was almost 0. Obvious call IMO.
Interesting possibility here. If the 49ers and Rams win out and the Hawks win next week then all 3 teams finish 13-4 and the 49ers win the division and the #1 seed in the NFC. 3 teams in one division at 13-4, that is INSANE.
Insane but a fairly high probability. The SF-SEA match likely will determine the NFC West winner. I am hoping however that Old Man Rivers has the game of his life on Monday night.
The power of playing the NFC South
A mere coincidence that the NFC South has two teams tied for 1st at 7-7.
Even ARI is 2-1 vs NFC South.
SEA 2-1
LAR 2-1
SF 3-1.
I think I stated prior to last night’s game that the Hawks winning against LAR would like result in the 49ers winning the West & the #1 seed.
That Chicago game is going to be huge for them.
Almost like NFC North last year.
And the NFC south.
Definitely a lateral.
Definitely a lateral but what a bizarre play. Fortunately for the Hawks, Charbonnet was the player that picked up the ball in the end zone to give to the refs.
Three 13-4 teams now looking even more likely.
The NFC South team getting West team is deserving. The Eagles are going to get a really tough matchup as well. Watching Packers QB situation. First round bye team likely gets division rival unless someone knocks off Bears. Hawks at home have as good of chance as anybody. Lets hope they show up in Carolina.
I was right about SEA on TV Sunday.
Still feeling this way.
49ers vs Hawks will determine nfc west
