Running thread

I’d do it with you except I frickin hate swimming. Looking forward to your training log here though.

I thought you’d already done an IM?!?! It’s on my bucket list, too. Give me 3 years to get rid of some other time obligations, then I’ll be available to train for one.

depends on how much time between them.

It might be hard to record but taking your heart rate every few minutes (maybe when you start a walking section) might be interesting.

Imma heart rate monitor. This weeekend got me thinking of running and healthy again. I’ll do a thread to help me be accountable.

BTW, I dry heaved a few times after the successful 400.

I decided to reduce my middle distance run by 6 minutes so it’ll be some time before I break my 8k pr.

Can you run faster than Mark Zuckerberg?

Ah, I remember the millennium when I could run 5K under 20 minutes.

You guys ever have a nice tailwind and then decide not to turn around so you can set a pr or something? I think about it but then I have to go home so I haven’t done it.

not anymore, no. not without a lot of training. i am old and slow now, mainly bc i lack the interest and time to put into improving. (recovery from a hard day ruins me for the rest of that day now. aging.) i train to fit into the same clothes for the most part now.

5mile run today. 50 minutes exactly. Legs were achy. Air was thick (foggy out). But I did it

Going to do speed work on Tuesdays. I’ll get some peeps to join to help me out.

Here’s my chart for today’s 58 1/2 minute mountain run (mostly walking). It’s all uphill, with a total altitude gain of 1,967 feet. I tried to keep around 155, then 160 for the last 15 minutes and then a final surge.

did a ladder workout again, like last week. Did the following:

run (time) / walk (distances in meters)

100 0:22.8 / 100
200 0:50.3 / 200
400 1:55 / 400
200 0:49.6 / 200
100 0:19.0 / 100
rest 4:00

100 0:21.9 / 100
200 0:49.0 / 200
400 1:52 / 400
200 0:48.7 / 200
100 0:19.2 / 100
rest 4:00

100 0:21.4 / 100
200 0:50.4 / 200
400 1:53 / 400
200 0:47.8 / 200
100 0:19.4 / 100
collapse

Proud of getting the goal of 3x400 all under 2:00, which was the goal.

Also, @T-roy , I think our times were a little off on our 400s last week. We were in lanes 3 & 4, which adds distance around the curve. Take off like 5 seconds from each of our 400s to account for that.

last week i was on a run (not fast) and my hammy cramped. so i jog walked limped home. tried to go the next day and made it…100 feet before walking back.

have run once since then, a very slow 25 minutes with 3 stops to stretch. still feels tight and sore. been riding the bike as a form of exercise. maybe will try running tomorrow

Thought about posting this in the WTF thread but decided to drop it here. Can someone explain this to me please? Yes it is “unseasonably” warm, but pretty much every single runner in this race has likely been training in warmer weather, including those living in Minnesota, given they trained through the summer. This seems like a ridiculous reaction.

I had to turn off my VPN. Okay so the article said that it would have put a strain on their emergency systems which I would believe. MN is pretty far north so even though it’s just in the 80s they might not have the infrastructure in place like they would in say, Arizona, which would similarly freak out if there was a small amount of sleet coming.

Maybe they also need to provide much more water than usual and I noticed that places up north tend to not have as many places of refuge for people to get out of the sun like shady places or buildings with AC.

It was 69 at the start of the race. My friend is a pretty slow runner and she was looking at about 80 when she finished. I can’t imagine it would have had a significant impact on the runners, but I’m from the south so that sounds like a brisk winter day to me
