RIP to both the cyclist and Maggie Smith.

One had a long productive life. The other didnā€™t get the chance.

Sad to hear, but an amazing life/career.

Say what you want about the Harry Potter films, but the casting was top-notch.

I debated pursuing a cycling career late in high school, and I felt like I could have really done something with it, but things like that gave me serious pause.

I also went to watch some event where Lance Armstrong was riding, and ā€¦ you think street races are some clean, may the best person win thing, and theyā€™re not. They were dirty. And even back then, you could tell Armstrong was very ā€œIā€™m going to win at any costā€ and I thought Iā€™m competitive, but I donā€™t need to win that badly.

There were a few interesting choicesā€¦

I used to love cycling and often wondered what would have happened had I trained seriously for it. I now know that anyone from my generation would have been f**ked with all the sophisticated doping coming in. I think Greg lemond said something along the lines that thank goodness he wasnā€™t 10 years younger.

I have more hope for those born after the mid 80s. Certainly not 100% guaranteed to be clean. Iā€™m still a little puzzled by Jonasā€™s time trial in last years tdf. That seemed like way too big a winning gap against good quality opposition.

Ha, but I donā€™t think that was Crabbe in the second pic. Blaise Zabini, I think.

And thereā€™s nothing short of dying
Half as lonesome as the sound
Of a sleeping city sidewalk
And Sunday Morning coming down.

Thatā€™s like late 80s iirc. My dad was a post graduate fellow.

I laugh at how then anyone from Africa was my dadā€™s brother even when they came from more than 10000km away.

fall of 1988 was freshman year
