RIP thread

I liked the movie very much, though I just read that it did not contain the same spirit of the book. I may go find the book.

I was never much of a fan of the crooner genre but concede he had a beautiful voice. RIP Tony.

Saw him at the 1999 SOA Convention in San Francisco. Very cool.

TIL 2 things about Tony Bennett I hadn’t heard before. I remember he was a veteran, but didn’t realize he was front line infantry and was one of the liberators of one of the Dachau concentration camps.

I knew he was a civil rights activist, but hadn’t heard this piece before:

My brush with greatness. She showed up at a St Baldricks event and played a couple songs. I was standing next to her at the side of the stage and she looked so incredibly wary that I didn’t feel comfortable talking to her. But when anyone came up and asked to take a picture, she was very polite and obliging and had a nice smile on her face.

That is sad. Funny guy. Had his hang-ups (really, a handler (no pun) should remind him that he cannot do these things in public, and just watch the flick at home, you rich perv!!), and PeeWee’s Playhouse was awesome. It was being shown on IFC recently. Still funny.
