RIP thread

Beef burgundy is the simple way … that’s what I usually call it if I don’t want to sound French.

Also:

Julia Child did update her books, etc., but if you used the original stuff, yeah, what’s available in the stores has changed over time. It’s far easier to learn to cook by watching her TV show than by reading a book. But she had to write the book first.

Now, go to any recipe on the web and get a life story of the chef before any ingredients are mentioned.

Yeah, I hate that. Even when there is a “Jump to Recipe” button, you often don’t actually jump to the recipe.

The Paprika app is worth $5, imo. It will let you search Google for recipes and then it parses out all that bullshit and gives you the ingredient list and the recipe, and then you can save the recipes you like to a folder.

It also will create a shopping list, and it integrates with Siri but not Alexa, which is a little frustrating for me but it’s fine.

I used whatever book was available 10 or so years ago when I bought it. Honestly I might make it again. I just have to gear up for it.

Getting a little OT, but it’s one of my favorite dishes… for Stu to make. I don’t cook. I definitely appreciate everybody else cooking… and I could see what Julia Child was doing in her show. I’ve watched a lot of cooking shows.

It’s never inspired -me- to cook. It’s definitely inspired me to ask -other- people to cook for me…

RIP Mehran Karimi Nasseri.

Hanging over my piano, I had a large print of the photograph that Tom Hanks, in the movie, wanted signed. (coincidence, not because of the movie)

My son got it when we downsized

he supposedly died in 2016, but stefano is a phoenix.

RIP Robert Clary.

I liked his character on Hogan’s Heroes. Many of the series actors had backgrounds that belied their characters.

RIP Greg Bear

He had a major stroke, and is not expected to regain consciousness, and in accordance with his advance medical directive, his wife will soon be removing him from life support.

Update: he died two hours later.

49!

that seems very young.

ETA:

TMZ, citing “sources with direct knowledge”, reported his death was a suicide.

And the article talks about reaching out to help people who are depressed.

Is that the second power Ranger suicide or was the other one an over dose?

Guess not. But it sounds like that show has had a bunch of tragedy deaths from accidents, illness and other, many under 50. Sheesh.

Trini died in a car accident way back in the day
