I actually thought they were one person, until Beane spoke at an SOA meeting and mentioned his wife

Blue Jackets’ Johnny Gaudreau, brother struck by car, killed - ESPN

"Columbus Blue Jackets winger Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew were killed Thursday when they were struck by a vehicle while riding as “pedalcyclists,” New Jersey State Police said in a release Friday.

Johnny Gaudreau was 31, and Matthew was 29.

According to police, a driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee hit the Gaudreaus from behind while trying to pass an SUV on the right that had moved over to make way for the two pedalcyclists. Police, who responded to the scene in Oldmans Township, New Jersey, at 8:19 p.m., said both Gaudreaus suffered fatal injuries.

The driver is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and has been charged with two counts of death by auto, police said. They said the investigation is ongoing.

Both brothers, who were New Jersey natives, had been in the area to be groomsmen in their sister Katie’s wedding that was scheduled for Friday in Philadelphia."

This is so sad. RIP Johnny Hockey.

OMG… that puts a damper on their sister’s wedding. How awful. RIP.

I can only imagine how hard it is for the Gaudreau family. When our adult son was hit on his bicycle by a careless motorist we were devastated but our Matthew survived, albeit permanently disabled. My heart goes out to the Gaudreau family in this much worse situation.

The motorist who hit our son was almost as devastated by what happened as we were and we moved on from our initial negative feelings towards him. I expect the Gaudreau family will find it harder to forgive the motorist involved here, especially as it appears alcohol was a factor.

adding to it, as the parents of celebrities, odds are they will not be left alone to mourn as they wish

My heart goes out especially to their sister. They were in town for her wedding and even though it was absolutely NOT her fault, I can imagine she’s playing the “what if” game with herself. What if she had picked a different weekend, planned an event for that night, gone with them, etc.

I had a relative die prematurely after my actions placed them at the scene of their death and it haunts me. Academically I know that it’s certainly not my fault, but what if I had just done that one thing differently???

Journalist has to have a heart of stone to bother the Gaudreau family after reading this communication from them:

“So, what are your feelings right now” (shove a mic in their face.)

You have also saved lives by some of the choices you have made. But you are unaware of when these events occurred.
