If you want to make sure everyone knows that your reply is specifically to the post right before yours, quote it, but change it slightly (don’t quote it all or add a space). That allows the slightly altered quote to show in your post.

My wife, who grew up in the rural south, was forced to undergo an exorcism at a local church because she asked too many unwanted questions as a teen.
The reference to Harris on the truck is just a milder form of that mentality.

If you hit reply to a post, it shows that you are responding to that post in the upper right corner. Like JB’s post that you quoted was in response to Mephistos_Sidekick, not you.
Reminds me of a story from my mom who grew up in PA and went to a Catholic high school. The class had a debate over abortion. Nobody volunteered for the pro-abortion stance so my mom was assigned to it. After the class the nun determined that she had argued her stance too agressively and she was sent to the principal/priest.

I called it a “tangent” for a reason. It was not to admonish any other poster, merely to teach everyone how to make sure one’s reply is connotated as replying to the post above one’s own.
Also, I quoted JB’s post, slightly altered, to show that this particular post was what I was responding to, and not any other JB post. Because, if I hit reply to any other JB post, it looks exactly the same as a reply to a JB post that is directly before mine.
It’s all very equivocal, and the old AO was better in this respect. If there is a Board fix, it should be done.
I don’t think so. I think he was just giving a way to be able to quote the most recent post without the system rejecting it. I could be wrong.
