The congressman’s district is nowhere near Erie and the lake (it’s biggest town is Reading and it’s on the other side of the state), which makes sense, as I’d think the people of Erie would be pissed off with a name change.
How is it that I learned how to pronounce Reading? Other than Monopoly, Reading never is mentioned, and I can’t remember any of my Monopoly opponents pronouncing it correctly.
Headline from the US Ambassador to Canada speech at the 911 Gander remembrance ceremony today.
Maybe the US should start treating its allies better? I would also remind Hoekstra that over 40,000 Canadians served in Afghanistan after 911.
Hoekstra says U.S. needs ‘our allies on board’ to counter terrorist threats
“The Canada in the War in Afghanistan mission from 2001 to 2014 was Canada’s longest war and its largest military deployment since the Second World War. [1, 2]
Overview of the Mission
Timeline: Lasted over 12 years, beginning with secret special operations in October 2001 and concluding with the final withdrawal of troops in March 2014. [1, 2, 3]
Troops: More than 40,000 members of the Canadian Armed Forces served in the region. [1]
Core Purpose: Joined a US-led multinational coalition after the 9/11 attacks to dismantle Al-Qaeda, overthrow the Taliban regime, provide security, and aid democratic reconstruction. [1]
Someone should remind Trump, Bessent, Hoekstra, Hegseth, Lutnick, et al, about this when they next start making jokes about Canada’s military and its past support of the US.
Canada felt it had to join the American mission in Afghanistan as the 911 attacks (arguably) triggered its NATO obligation. However I don’t expect Canada to send troops to future wars where the US is the aggressor, eg Iran.
The leaders, installed by U.S. President Donald Trump, argue that putting the president’s name on its facade may be the only way to avoid imminent and “certain fiscal collapse,” according to the newspaper, citing documents it obtained.
Who could have foreseen that spending tons of money on renovations and cutting off all revenue would cause financial strain? Thankfully we have a business genius like Dear Leader with lots of bankruptcy experience on the case.
I agree that seems generally obvious…UNLESSS…they know something about US intentions that we do not. It’s hard to believe it is truly Russia vs Eastern Europe. There are more resources and relationships in play, as evidenced by the above article.
Per tax filings, in 2024 the Kennedy Center had assets exceeding liabilities to the tune of north of $500 MM, and had revenue exceed expenses in 2024 as well (that isn’t always the case). Awesome management to be bankrupt in 2026.
Saw the messaging today is officially that they may go bankrupt ‘unless they put Trump’s name back on the building’. Which just doesn’t make any practical sense. I hate this particular storyline.
The Republican logic is trump’s name will increase the donations by 500 million percent
maybe it will - no Dem leaner or lover of the arts would donate now, regardless and no Maga would donate unless it was another trump scam they could waste their money on
