Republicans Say the Darndest Things!

Sounds like quite the bigot: criticism of the US = hatred of the US.

Where was this philosophy when Obama and Biden were running/ruining the country?

A TikTok influencer recently went viral for a video in which she called churches and asked for a bottle of formula for her fictional baby. Most churches declined to help.

But 10 of the 43 offered to help, including a mosque, a Buddhist temple, an African American church, a Hispanic church, and a tiny Appalachian church. Johnny Dunbar, a 69-year-old great grandfather and pastor of the latter — Heritage Hope Church of God in Somerset, Kentucky —offered to go out and buy the formula himself.

Some on the right think that the churches would be correct to refuse help on moral grounds, not financial ones.

What would Jesus do, eh?

Well, she is an agent of the devil, according to one pastor from Louisiana.

After Monroe’s posts went viral, some of the churches she called responded — but not well. Bishop Raymond Johnson, of Baton Rouge’s Living Faith Christian Church, called Monroe a “witch” who did a “dirty deed” in his Sunday sermon.

“I pray that you be delivered, that the devil will no longer have total control of you,” Johnson said.

But, let’s look at this a little further: suppose she is, and was “tempting” this pastor the same way Jesus was tempted (according to a factual historical document).
“Could you give me some baby formula for my starving baby”?
"NO! NO! A THOUSAND TIMES NO! YOU ARE THE DEVIL, AND I WILL NOT GIVE INTO SUCH TEMPTATION!!!

What a piece of shit.

Wasn’t there something in the Bible about Jesus helping a prostitute?

This tells you a lot about the sorry state of the larger organisations led by religious Christian nativists in the US.

Yup. 2000 years ago, Jesus was calling out the hypocrites and standing up for the downtrodden.

Too bad these teachings are ignored these days by the Christian Right.

“Fake news!”

once you lean ALL IN on Jesus dying for your sins and guaranteeing your place in heaven provided you believe in him as your savior, you really don’t have to be decent on this earth in your lifetimet. that one teaching allows you to ignore all others

I listened to a few of these Tiktoks. She’s talking to a bunch of secretaries when she gets told they don’t help with that. I don’t think it would be the same as if she talked to the minister or priest of the church, but who knows.

She probably got most of these secretaries reprimanded, when they probably just didn’t have the wits about them to say “Oh I’ll buy you formula!” as she was trying to imply to them they should say. Those secretaries are very likely making not that high of a wage to begin with. They were mostly just saying that their church doesn’t have formula available because that’s what they knew.

I like to think I would buy a random stranger formula if they asked (and actually had a hungry baby), but the real question for everyone is - would you? If you were making say double minimum wage?

I also think that this part of her story wasn’t very plausible

Many churches she called suggested she contact other nonprofits or government services. But, as part of her test, she would tell them she’d already tried all those, but they were out of supplies.

Oh, and this response is interesting

Seems real based on limited research

They’re sending their cattle:

maybe some of the US cattle read some stuff on the internet and decided they didn’t need the screw worm vaccine anymore?

I’m making an assumption about who’s been doing the saying here, but…

Because… pedophiles need to be protected from being exposed? I mean, it doesn’t take much to show what is more important to these idolizers of false idols.

It’s amazing that antifa didn’t threaten MTG until she disagreed with dear leader.
