Republicans Say the Darndest Things!

Who you going to believe, the Ministry of Truth or your lying eyes?

Thought on the latest JD Vance controversy: I don’t actually have a problem with what he said. And I say that as someone who once had a relationship end in large part because I’m not Catholic.

“Our two kids go to Christian school. Our eight-year-old just did his first communion a year ago. That’s how we decided to come to our arrangement,” Vance said, to roaring applause. “As I’ve told her, and as I’ve said publicly, and as I’ll say now in front of 10,000 of my closest friends: do I hope, eventually, that she is somehow moved by the same thing I was moved by in church? Yes. I honestly do wish that, because I believe in the Christian gospel and I hope that eventually my wife comes to see it the same way.

But the full context is that he then said:

“But if she doesn’t,” Vance went on to say, “God says that everybody has free will, so that doesn’t cause a problem with me. That’s something that you work out with your friends, your family, the person you most love.”

I don’t have a problem with the idea of saying hey, I wish that she too was Catholic, but she’s the person that I love and I accept her.

They’re using an internal app which is considered by them to be more accurate than passports and birth certificates.

This is the person that the Heritage foundation says is ok for Tucker Carlson to platform, and Kanye brought to dinner with Trump

Spoiler bc Nick Fuentes is racist

This is why I was the “non catholic” in pre cana despite being episcopal. I do sympathize with the intention, even small religious differences add the potential for conflict in a marriage. Good to deal with that before the state gets involved.

I guess he forgot that Obama is also half-white.

“And I really, honestly do not understand it, because we did go through years of lectures about how important it was to vote for Barack Obama to be this historic first Black candidate. And then afterwards, we were told that this was the greatest thing and it was gonna solve all these problems.”

“But we showed them we are NOT going to stop being racist! No way! It’s in our blood! It’s tradition! It’s our way of life!”

Makes your head spin, eh?

I’m on the fence about whether this counts as a darndest thing, as other political occurrences in the past year have had me thinking similar things, but…

It’s only a darndest thing if he ends up not actually being a socialist. (In the meantime it’s a valid sentiment since socialism tends to destroy everything it touches.)

Is he proposing socialist things or “socialist” things?

Funny, since half (or more) of the country thinks tRump is why our Founding Fathers opposed democracy.

Not sure what the alternative voting system is for voting for mayors. Appointed by POTUS?

Naw. That’d be just way too much of a drain on the Presidential resources.

Those mayors should be appointed by VPOTUS.
[/snark]

Once upon a time, you had to be a male white property owner to vote.

I can easily believe there are folks who would like at least one of those prerequisites reinstituted.

Keep in mind that there are folks who regularly push for the repeal of the 17th and 19th amendments.

Europe seems to be a great place to live and I enjoy the socialism we have in Canada. I’m.not really sure what it’s destroyed.
