I don’t know if that’s grift (there are plenty of other examples of grift, of course) but it’s certainly monetizing the presidency.

Hah, I was just wondering to myself what happened to Laura Loomer.
If you recall, Loomer, who is a self-described racist and 9/11 Truther, was traveling with Trump to various rallies as well as the 9/11 memorial and other events. She was claiming to give Donald Trump the best oral sex of his life and challenging other sycophants like Marjorie Taylor Greene to catfights on Twitter.
Then she just kind of… disappeared.
Seems like about 2-3 weeks ago, she started picking a fight with Elon Musk, who immediately deverified and demonetized her Twitter. You can’t challenge New Daddy. Now, Loomer is just ignored by MAGA and the media. Melania, seemingly overlooking another affair, recently made a few appearances with Donald, albeit she clarified she won’t do First Lady duties or live with Donald.
I wonder how much of her memecoin she owns.

Her people have clarified that she will be “present for major events”, but she’s already been skipping traditional pre-inauguration events like a meeting with Jill Biden, because touring for her book took precedence.
To be fair, it seems part of the purpose of the visit is for the present First Lady to show the incoming one the place where they will be living… and Melania isn’t staying with Donald.
She might do some First Lady things - like a new “Be Best” campaign. But I expect little more than a few next-to-Donald photos from her over the next few years.
No Melania, no(?) Ivanka… Could lead to some interesting dynamics.
True… plus Donald has already lived there once before. Caroline Harrison died right before the 1892 election, with their daughter assuming rhe responsibilities of First Lady. But I’m guessing that the traditional tour of the White House did not take place, as Frances Cleveland already knew her way around the place, probably better than Harrison’s daughter.
I expect a line of these, where Trump attests he swore his oath to the Constitution on each one.
I couldn’t see Hillary Clinton’s reaction but if I’d been present my reaction would have looked very similar to Kamala Harris during the debate where she had a WTF look on her face most of the time.
