Jealousy is a bigger factor here.

IIRC the head of state of Canada is King Charles III. It would be interesting to see how the process of becoming a state would be done.
I don’t think Trump is aware that Canada has a King and it may not be wise to make the suggestion he made on the record

I am sure Trump has no idea of Canada’s political structure. However he might be polite to Charles III given Trump’s reverence for royalty and wealth.
Canada’s constitution was unable to be amended by Canada until 1982 when it was repatriated to Canada from the UK. It was probably the “crowning” achievement of Pierre Trudeau to oversee the creation of a modern constitution and bill of rights for Canada.

These are unfavorable terms that can only be tabled in a hostile takeover which is essentially what Trump tabled. It’s like he’s clueless on the nuances of things.
Canada will eventually be pressured by Trump to up our military spending to at least the 2% GDP NATO target. I have no problem with that as we have not been paying our share. Would be sad though if we have to direct that extra spending towards buying nuclear weapons from Russia to discourage a US invasion!

Apparently Trump had been using that 51st state talk since his last term, nothing burger.
He hasn’t been President-elect except quite recently.
But his audiences are now taking up the 51st state chant. That is what is scary.
