Republicans Say the Darndest Things!

Welcome to a new kind of tension
All across the alien nation
Where everything isn’t meant to be okay
In television dreams of tomorrow
We’re not the ones who’re meant to follow
For that’s enough to argue

This could go in the spelling/grammar-mocking thread, but since it’s political…

Maybe they’re concerned about Somali pirates?

I can’t help but think the number of people who run boarding homes nowadays is quite a small slice of the electorate and hardly worth pursuing.

Maybe its proposing instituting water boarding to restore law and order.

In the “every accusation is a confession” theme, after weeks of lying about the current administration withholding aid to NC for political reasons, Trump says he will withhold disaster aid to CA for political reasons

I’m shocked.

I know he’s declined to do another debate, for the obvious reason…but I wonder if the two campaigns would agree to televised simultaneous cognitive tests.

It’s been interesting reading theories about the Coachella rally.

Users on the ground reported on Twitter that the buses “were never filled up with fuel before the rally”, and they either had to drive so far away for fuel that they couldn’t come back in time, or they ran out of gas trying to get to fuel.

Haven’t seen anything seeming credible, but another rumor is that Trump stiffed the bus company, so they intentionally fulfilled half their contract.

A Republican rumor is that the police ordered the buses not to transport anybody in order to hurt Trump.

Also, I’m laughing at reporting that nobody thought to walk the 5-6 miles back to their vehicles but instead waited 3+ hours. Also, that people who were transported back to their cars could have easily turned around and picked more people up. But hey, bootstraps.

Not sure if all of the folks left behind were capable of walking 5-6 miles. His audience skews a bit older.

Funny story: in 2016 the SOAs annual meeting (it was still the annual meeting back then) was in Las Vegas. President Obama flew in to McCarran Airport (it was still McCarran Airport back then) Sunday afternoon when a lot of actuaries were also flying into McCarran. Pro tip: do NOT fly into an airport at the exact same time as the sitting President of the United States of America.

I waited 4 hours for an Uber that was “5 minutes away”… FOR FOUR HOURS.

I could have easily walked to The Cosmopolitan in that time, but it never remotely dawned on me that it would take that long for the Uber to get there. How can a Presidential motorcade cause a four hour delay???

So I do have some sympathy for the people waiting.

Trump says he would use the military against “the enemy within”, and mentions radical leftists and the Pelosis as targets

Not sure how getting it banned makes you the father of it.

So hard to keep up with his lies. He’s banking on idiots’ believing he could not possibly lie that much, and in fact-checkers simply quitting their jobs.

I think that means anyone who doesn’t vote for Trump.

Maybe he meant he raped the statutes that protected it and it couldn’t get an abortion because of the new laws that everyone wanted.

More about Missouri, this time an athlete who dares to speak about politics.
FoxNews hates that when… (tapping earpiece) … this just in, Fox News is happy about this one:

In a segment last week, Laura Ingraham could barely contain her glee when she announced that Harrison Butker had decided to venture into politics: a “move sure to drive the liberals crazy”.

Remember when that same FoxNews POS thought LeBron James, coincidentally black, to shut up and dribble?

And while it’s still early days for Butker’s Pac, he certainly seems to have a lot of support. The owner of the Kansas City Chiefs said on Wednesday that he had no issue with his player’s foray into politics. Which is interesting because, when they lean to the left, athletes are often criticized for getting political. Indeed, the very same Laura Ingraham who is so thrilled about Butker’s move into politics memorably told the basketball star LeBron James to keep his political comments to himself and “shut up and dribble” back in 2018. Ingraham had taken umbrage at James discussing the challenges of being Black and a public figure in the US during an ESPN interview. “It’s always unwise to seek political advice from someone who gets paid $100 million a year to bounce a ball,” she snarked.

Butker, meanwhile, gets paid $6.4m a year to play with a football. And I haven’t heard a single person on the right tell him to keep quiet and kick.

Mitch McConnell said after the 2020 election that then-President Donald Trump was “stupid as well as being ill-tempered," a “despicable human being" and a “narcissist,” according to excerpts from a new biography of the Senate Republican leader that will be released this month.

I wish he had the fortitude to say these things publicly.
