Redactle

I did actually look it up! It was literally a copy and paste error. If I had spelled it right the first time and had only guessed xvi, I think I would have had it in about 50.

A little frustrated, knew it was a weapon but ‘gunpowder’ only had one hit so I was thinking of more primitive weapons for a while.

I got world wars at the very start but forgot about it. About halfway through, I didn’t have anything else. Then I tried time words, which gave me second, which got me 2,xxx feet per second. After thinking asteroids and planets and other fast stuff like that, it dawned on me it could be weapon-related.

Powder had 11 hits

Dammit!

This one was pretty easy for me because War is usually one of my early guesses

War was my first guess. I figured out who was fighting but couldn’t come up with anything. Thought about it for a while and cheated. Not familiar with this war and those are two words I doubt I’d ever come up with.

my extra word was French (2nd word), that had so many hits, went Franco. But wouldn’t think going straight to Franco

1st guess was war. france at 7. germany at 12.

This conflict was mentioned in a recent puzzle that was related to France. Plus I can’t think of any other war with a hyphen in it’s name. At this point, if war is in the article, I can guess the name of the war by number and length of blanks in the name

  1. I don’t totally trust that where they use a hyphen I would
  2. doesn’t fit Sino-Japanese, Mexican-American comes to mind

There are a bunch of wars that commonly use a hyphenated name of the combatants. A bunch of "Anglo-"s, for sure. I search prussian wars just for fun and found Franco-Dutch, Swedish-Brandenburg, and Austro-Prussian.

Yeah, one thing that drives me crazy with hyphens in redactle is that they usually don’t leave spaces around ones where I would - when the hyphen isn’t part of a name, for instance, but just separates part of a sentence.

I had a few feelers out kind of in the right area that didn’t hit. Used a lot of guesses on more generic words.
