Random Thoughts

Been a long time since I’ve been in an area where a tornado outbreak was possible. Tonight might be my lucky night.

You ok??

Fine here. Nothing really. Little rain, little wind. It was 72 and really humid around 11pm, but the line I was watching did nothing with it. Good thing we drove down Thursday, had we tried Friday afternoon I would have bailed out on the attempt at some point and tried to retreat back home.

I’m probably 60 miles from the Amazon warehouse that collapsed. 2 dead there at last check, looks like it cut right through.

KY looks bad. Mayfield is getting all the attention for the rumored death toll and the volume of damage, Bremen is probably where it was worst.

The tornados were pretty far from me and not in my state. But I woke up at 3 am only to fall back asleep and dream about large tornados.

Glad to hear you’re both ok!

If I give in and donate $2.75 to wikipedia will they leave me alone already? Or will they beg for more?

Without testing it myself, I’m guessing if you create an account before donating, then you can log in and make it shut up everywhere. It doesn’t bug me on the home PC where I donated, but does on the work PC.

Any issues with power or downed trees?

Idk - I’m not going out in this crap! :joy:

We have underground power lines so we are good so far. My folks live way west where all the roads are (or at least were) closed. Their power is out and lots of roofs in the street.

Holy crap. It wasn’t THAT bad in Lawrence, I did a quick lap of my immediate neighborhood and I don’t see any big limbs down, certainly no roofs where they shouldn’t be.

Our neighborhood is old, so power poles. I saw two bucket trucks out so looks like some lost power but we are fine.

Ugh. My mom just called a bit ago. Wild fires all over western KS. Rural firefighters can’t keep up. A really bad one on my family’s farm north of Hays. My brother and cousins are plowing around the houses that have been on that homesteaded land for over 100 years. Will find out tomorrow if they are still there.

Wow! The smoke from Ellis county fires (where my family’s farm is) has made it 250+ miles East.
:exploding_head:

How are things going? It’s like the dust bowl in my neck of the woods but so far no major fires. (knock wood.)

I’m waiting for an update on the farm. Fires are still burning so I’m not sure if they are allowed to go back and assess.

One home on the farm was lost. A newer house - not one of the homestead houses - I haven’t heard an update on those. But the young man who works the farm with my cousin was given a section of land and built a house for his wife and two babies. It’s gone.

The other houses and buildings are ok. Huge sections of land are burned away. Waiting to hear if the cattle are ok.

Let me know if there’s anything I can do. If you’re heading over I could probably send some supplies, maybe clothes for the kids and/or the parents, some cash, etc. Or if they have a GoFundMe or similar.

My goal is to give an extra $1k to charity this year, and this feels like a worthy cause.
