In Illinois, consumers pay a lower sales tax rate for a Twix bar than a Snickers Bar.

In Illinois, food is subject to a lower tax rate than general merchandise. However, the politicians of Illinois decided that candy was sinful so candy will be subject to the higher general merchandise rate than other food.

Well, what makes one food candy and another food not candy? Well, The Illinois Department of Revenue devotes more than two pages to the definition of candy in its regulations. (http://tax.illinois.gov/LegalInformation/regs/part130/130-310.pdf)

One twist is that if something contains flour, then it is a snack and not candy and it gets a lower tax rate. Twix contains flour.

I wonder how much the politicians in Springfield made in kickbacks to come up with that definition.

I look forward to Thursday’s every week because it’s my night to go get dinner out. Now it’s Thursday and I have to talk myself into going.

i’d toss the entire thing in the trash and get an everything bagel with sundried tomato cream cheese or maybe a pumpernickel bagel (no raisins). pumpernickel is risky though because i have to be super sure they don’t give me one with raisins.

think i might get one tomorrow for breakfast now that i mentioned it.

Everything bagel with half sundried tomato, half olive cream cheese.

When I was in my 20s I often got sweeter bagels; e.g. plain bagel with cinnamon walnut spread.

I do like pumpernickel and have been lucky to avoid raisins.

(I like raisins! Just not in pumpernickel or other savory breads).

Most sunflowers seem to have only one flower. We have some growing in our backyard (thanks to birds who don’t know how to eat birdseed well), one of which has twelve flowers growing out of it. Must be a lot of variety in that birdseed.
