One of my coworkers is stuck in the US because their flight back to LHR was cancelled due to the heavy snows in NYC. Lots of people trying to fly back to the UK with limited seats now.

One of my neighbors has ripped out what seemed like a perfectly good 20 year old concrete driveway and the crews are prepping this for an almost identical replacement driveway. This seems like an odd way to spend $25k.

Maybe he’s laundering some money.

Or he’s moving Jimmy Hoffa

It is and it isn’t, if anyone wants me to bang out two pages I can do that.

There is a lot of good VBC going on, I won’t name names but I’ve seen some encouraging things across many specialties. Now the question, when we discuss saving money, is what is the counterfactual? What would these beneficiaries’ total cost of care have been absent the intervention. As you might imagine, what often gets done is you look at last year’s costs, and adjust for things like cost trend. And that cost trend has gotten quite high. So even if we save money, it just means costs grow at 3% instead of 6%.

The SOA actually has a pretty decent paper on some of this.

Both my boss and his boss have now referred to my spouse using my own gendered pronouns.

I’ve only ever called them my partner and they/them. But my bosses are definitely in the wrong lane.

However, my spouse said they don’t mind any pronouns if the person isn’t trying to be disrespectful. One day my bosses might see them at a Christmas dinner or similar, but it might be years. Will be interesting if they learn I’m straight.

I hope I’m given a little bit of grace with respect to this. A coworker recently said they prefer to be called they/them instead of he/him, and I’m trying to respect them but I’ve slipped up a few times. Not in front of them, but in front of other people who know their preferred pronouns. Thankfully I’ve been here a while and people know I’m not a jerk.

My mom loved hummingbirds, so I started putting out feeders in her memory after she passed away. There’s one variety that’s here (Pacific Northwest) year round. Despite it being February, I think some of the migratory ones must have shown up, because the feeders are getting drained much more often.

We also have hummingbirds year round on our back deck in Vancouver. They also remind me of my mother and her feeders. Hope the folks who bought her house after she died continued them.

I’m starting to get confused. Your bosses think you’re gay but you’re straight?

And if they have some reason to think you’re gay, and they’re referring to your spouse in the same gender, that just seems like folks trying to be respectful in a confusing world.

Alas, no. I doubt my dad fed them after she passed, and he died in a house fire the following month. Being outside, my mom’s old hummingbird feeder was one of the few mementos I have. Despite being winter when I first put out a feeder, it was surprising how fast the hummingbirds discovered it.

I assume it’s Anna’s hummingbirds that you have year round, too? It’s amazing seeing how the males can flash their fuchsia chest feathers.

Perhaps they are reading the ambiguity of they/them not as a privacy or inclusion issue but different than expected.

Ah. Op said ā€˜they’ and that gets taken as op being gay. I guess that seems like a mistake someone could make. Goodness knows I’m ignorant of most of this stuff, I could easily make an incorrect assumption.

That must have been a tough month for you!

Yes, it is Anna’s hummingbirds that we have here.

Yes, I’m straight. My partner came out as nonbinary following our wedding.

If it mattered, I’d correct my bosses, but it’s just an interesting observation. The rest of our staff just use ā€œthey/spouse/partnerā€ in the way I discuss them, but my two layers of boss both assumed ā€œgayā€ despite 8 months of me talking with them daily and not reinforcing that.

0/5, do not recommend. It did, however, make me finally set up a will and trust. While my parents did have a will, it was old and not appropriately balanced (which my siblings and I all agreed). It was beyond a poop show for my oldest brother to deal with.

Is this actually a thing? I can’t imagine it is!

The way you can tell it’s a lie is because Kevin O’Leary said it.

Yeah. Don’t get me started on Kevin O’Leary.

I’ve had 1 parent call me to try to set up an interview. Never had one show up at one.
