Another deduction I just thought of: 50% of the cost of food bought while traveling. Going to a game and stopping somewhere for lunch would qualify, I think, as long as the amount of food bought and cost is reasonable.
Unless youâre specifically posting to tic toc or whatever, take pictures in landscape mode.
Also, rule of thirds.
Not only is it not typically audited, it makes no difference to the calculation if you are taking the standard IRS mileage rate. So they donât even care if itâs wrong. The only way it matters is if youâre deducting actual expenses, which is a PITA. Just take the mileage rate. Itâs fairly generous, especially if youâre mostly driving on the highway.

You can fill in the forms online, print them, mail them in for the cost of an envelope and maybe 2 stamps.

Also, too late for 2023 but for 2024 your daughter would qualify for free filing with VITA. I canât remember the income threshold but I want to say itâs around $50,000. And they absolutely do Schedule Câs as an absolute crap-ton of low income folks have small businesses. Itâs free, but arrive early and be prepared to wait. Sheâll need her driverâs license AND her Social Security card as well as all of her tax forms.

Eh, the cell phone is small dollars compared to the house. Plenty of parents charge their kids for their cell phone, whereas itâs fairly rare to charge them rent. (And that would be income to the parents if they did.)
tommie can plausibly say heâs taking it out of her allowance⌠her allowance would be $70 a month higher if she didnât have the cell phone. Boom, now the kid is paying for her own cell phone.

Yes, this is correct. Even picking up a soda at the gas station would count. So for a sports official thatâs a definite possibility.
Save receipts. Youâre unlikely to be audited, but you never know. If you didnât save them take the deduction anyway⌠if itâs reasonable itâs unlikely to be questioned or make a big difference. But better to save them.

I had lunch in the airport about 90 minutes ago. They asked me for my phone number to text me when my food was ready. It was a Chicago hot dog so I just waited by the counter for five minutes and got my food.
