Random Thoughts

was driving down the highway two days ago, and an armchair suddenly yeeted itself out of the back of a pickup truck two lanes over and about fifty feet ahead. If I’d been in that lane, I’m sure I wouldn’t have been able to stop before I bashed it, and if it had rolled up the hood of my van there’s a good chance it would have smashed through my windshield too. Gave me a right good scare for all of thirty seconds!

Exactly why I refuse to travel behind loaded vehicles. A secured semi, whatever. Anybody in a UHaul is a screaming signal of “I don’t know what I’m doing with this much vehicle.” A truck with tie-downs is screaming “stay FAAAAAAAAAR away and in another lane if possible.” I’ll let multiple people pass me before I keep speed with such a truck, after maybe 4 vehicles are between us. And then I give the 4th one lots of room.

My grocery store puts the LED bulbs down low. In Kansas, incandescent bulbs are still considered top shelf, it seems.

Per https://www.cnn.com/2023/08/01/business/incandescent-light-bulb-ban/index.html
it is no longer legal to sell most incandescent bulbs. (I.e., most which could be sold in the past can no longer be sold)

My local grocer may be a bit of a rebel!

Had a similar experience with a burner from a stove. A few minutes later the broiler pan was flying around the interstate. Granted, both are a lot smaller than an armchair… that must upped the heart rate and adrenaline.

I was driving behind a 5-yr old VW downtown this evening. It came to a stop att a light but then would not go. The driver was having problems so I went around and parked. As he tried to move the car it made a terrible noise, it sounded like either the engine or the tranny was destroyed. A few of us helped push his car out of the way. What a sucky day for him. Also found out two women I know lost children at an early age, one is about five, the other in his 20s. Maybe I should have saved this for the sucky thought thread…

I think my Roomba is drunk. It’s been cleaning eight square feet for quite a while now. Hardwood that wasn’t dirty to begin with, at least not terribly dirty.

Do I LOOK like someone who wants to pick up and move to Bermuda to lead a pricing team? Move along, recruiter I’ve never spoken to.

They did at least get my industry right this time.

I’m sure the recruiter was impressed by your background.

I could fly from DSM to Paris for only $550 round trip through the end of February. Even though I’m going to Scotland in early May and even though I usually use frequent flyer miles I’m sniffing around for another destination at those prices.

Or are they always that cheap in the winter and I never considered it before.

I thought Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics were referred to as STEM. When did it become STEAM?

When the arts felt left out.

Well this is the Random Thoughts thread, not the Happy Thoughts thread, so you must be confused.

There wasn’t a Relieved Thoughts thread.

It is the most stereotypical grey fall day today. No leaves on the trees, and the sky is grey. Looks like something out of the book of eli.
