Updates on the vampire neighbors if anyone is interested. We left them candy at Christmas, they repaid us with fresh bread and a note.

they DID buy it for their kids for college housing. But then they found another house that they liked better and bought that, so now they have this house. They claim the rent it as a sort of B&B but the occupancy is about 5% so they are losing money. I guess they have enough money not to care about it.

You mean, like an AirBnB?

I guess, I haven’t looked to see if it’s listed on any platforms, I’m not sure I care that much. There were people there last weekend, and then a cleaning crew came on Monday, so it checks out. Also explains why there is never trash on the curb, the cleaning crew takes it with them.

Has anybody ever tried on board wifi via starlink?

Onboard wifi is usually crap so I tend to avoid it, but gave it a go on our flight Rio to Lima (LATAM) because of starlink and its way better than I expected.

Bought some wifi coverage for the little one to watch full streaming (Disney/Spotify) and it works quite well.

Wasn’t terribly expensive either ($12/flight which was about 6hrs use for us).

I’m at my barber. I think he might be Turkish. He just brought me a drink, sorta like coffee but not exactly. What am I drinking?

…Turkish coffee?

Is it sweet?

Not sweet

Doesn’t sound like Turkish coffee then.

You just made that up!

Reminds me of the movie Snatch

Turkish: You take sugar?
Brick Top: No thank you, Turkish; I’m sweet enough.

amazing movie

Just like your barber!!

Any celiacs or those celiac-adjacent here have experience with or opinions on the Nima sensor? I’m debating getting one for my son. Weighing the pros and cons (especially the cost), I’m not sure of the practicality. However, it’s celiac awareness month, so they’re currently on sale. If you’d rather PM me, that’s fine, too. Thanks!

I have no experience with the Nima sensor but have a son and SIL who are celiac so please let me know the results of your research. Thanks. Alan.

There’s drawbacks on the kinds of things it can test, and obviously it only tests what goes in the sensor (might miss a cross contact area in the food), but the ongoing cost is significant. Dropping $200 on the sensor is one thing, but each cartridge, which are single-use only, are $12 each. I can see the value of using one when traveling and strongly react to being glutened. The device itself seems to be pretty reliable for the sample tested, though.

I don’t have anything to contribute but I need you to know that I love this phrase.

I was not a fan of that phrase, but it’s what’s widely used, so too bad for me!

I imagine a world in which there is a random ā€œglutenizerā€ terrorizing the city, walking along the street and throwing bagels into people’s unsuspecting maw, disappearing down the alley only to show up at a sporting event to blast the crowd with a t-shirt cannon repurposed to distribute croutons as if it were a fire hose.

Pretty sure that was the plot of an episode of Power Puff Girls.
