Yep, we’ve had them since at least last fall. My older son was in Philly with his mom over the weekend and saw a bajillion of them. I’ve seen a lot here, but not as many as he did there.

Did the walkway over the Hudson, a lot on the bridge, we looked like we were inventing a new dance step

What is the number of people who are alive today and you know personally, that you will be happy to dance on their grave? Inspired by a Ted_hoffman post from a while ago

Two years ago we had a bunch on our front tree.

But after a season of my wife an me taking our frustrations out on them with a bottle of water and Dawn dish soap (spray them with the mixture and they die very quickly) our tree hardly had any last year.

We are seeing many more this year, and they are getting closer to the house–they’ve been spotted on our front porch and back deck.

Haven’t found where they are spawning from yet, but we have the Dawn-water bottle at the ready on the from porch.

(Side note: the concoction only work on the adult flies (when they have full color); when they are still black and white fledglings, the mixture merely annoys them and they just hop away–quick little buggers they are)

Dance? No, it wouldn’t make me feel any better, but I have said some very blunt things to a couple of relatives who were not nice to us in life. To those who were kind and helpful, I will offer quiet prayers and thanks.

Yeah I should have phrased it differently

I don’t think I’d celebrate the death of anyone but there are people I’d be unable to scrape up any remorse for.

I’m the oldest of 8. I wasn’t asked to do any of these things.

What isn’t listed is driving. While many parents are leery of their kid driving, mine were excited. I was asked to be chauffeur all the time for both kids activities and family trips.

Hmm, I wasn’t expecting much, but this is really skewed. Did y’all have to do any chores at all growing up? What (other than driving your siblings places)?

I had to help with cleaning/dishes, yard work, giving the dog a bath, sometimes going to the grocery store.

I was the youngest, but I answered as if it was my kids. Growing up I did things like mowing the lawn and taking out the trash. Afaik my older sister did nothing, but who knows - about 5 years difference.

mowing lawn / raking leaves
taking out trash

This is parentification and isn’t healthy. A teen’s siblings are not their children and should not be their responsibility unless 1. They are paid for their time like a real babysitter, and 2. They have the ability to say no.

Chores are different.

I’m the oldest of 7 and was asked to do a lot of things, but not these specific things.

None of my siblings nor I are on good terms with my parents now. Shocking. Lots of therapy to unpack the trauma of being parentified (older) or ignored (middle) or overly coddled (youngest). Also shocking.
