Has Vance demanded the new Pope thank him for clearing the way for his ascension?

Definitely mad because he didn’t wear a suit.

Thought about putting this in the studies with obvious results thread. But this is a real problem with dangerous consequences that people occasionally bring up but doesn’t seem to get much in the way of solutions (and will be ignored hard by the Trump administration).

I wonder if anyone thinks that Trump told India and Pakistan to fight a little bit just so he can negotiate a cease fire and then look like a man of peace. :tfh:

“Waaah I wanna Peace Prize!!”
“OK, ‘sir’. We will start a war between India and China, and then you jump in and voila peace!”

Immigration is only a problem when the media says it is. UK sentiment on immigration vs actual immigration levels:

What happened to make these diverge in 2016, other than Brexit passing? The press cut back on their reporting of immigration.

Straight white males are underrepresented in the nursing industry. I wonder if the current administration would have an issue if a hospital system had a DEI initiative to hire more white male nurses.

and elementary ed. and childcare.

Telephone operators…

Am i dating myself?

The current administration would be more likely to mock white men who wanted to become nurses. That’s the calibre of people we’re talking about.

This is a mindbending ideologies chart

The whole thing, or the part where liberals and conservatives are generally indistinguishable? The latter seems a lot more true if you go back to the 90s. Today, Democrats might be nearer social democracy and Republicans are in the upper half of the blue section.

The whole damn thing

I caught an old SNL sketch recently, and was struck with how Obama used to be called a “king” or a “dictator” because of how he “ruled” by Executive Order:

At the time I was generally happy with what Obama was doing, but openly criticized him on some topics. Regarding Executive Orders, I thought he was being a bit heavy-handed with them, but given a Republican Congress explicitly committed to opposing anything he did, I wasn’t that upset. It was still a little worrisome that the Executive was able to wield so much power, but most of them didn’t seem egregious.

Was a very interesting watch this morning about how a Democratic lawmaker sneaked universal pre-K into Oklahoma.

He creatively changed up the bill while striking a sentence that allowed for voluntary universal pre-K for 4-year-olds for, but posed the bill like it was closing a loophole. While the Democrats in the know stayed quiet about it, the Republican legislature passed it. Now, everybody likes their universal pre-K and there’s even been Republicans talking about allowing pre-K for 3-year-olds.

Sounds like a bit of realpolitik finally reached Texas.

Don’t burn jobs for the sake of ideology. You just get poorer that way.

No Egypt, no Saudi Arabia, so not really a Muslim ban, but more of a poor country ban.

Just poor countries so far.
