They are stuck in a type of death spiral IMO. The Trump base represents the biggest block of primary voters so you have to appease them. Appeasing them is largely turning the right of center voters into Democrats though so winning national and statewide elections is going to get harder and harder. These Trump people will eat their own with the quickness too so that base will slowly whither away as the crazy gets further and further from reality. The car is driving down the road leaking oil basically.

So Q is suspected to be the owner of 8chan Ron Watkins according to the makers of the new HBO Docuseries Q: Into The Storm. Makes sense given the followers migrated to 8chan from 4chan and he stood to profit from more of them showing up.

I’ve watched the first 2 parts of the HBO documentary. It’s not like what I expected. I knew very little about the “chan” websites, which have been the focus so far, so maybe that’s why. Very interesting and I’m looking forward to the next 4 parts.
Was hoping we had moved past this, but some scuttlebutt out there that Trump is starting to openly embrace Qanon instead of just dog whistling towards it.

MIL just posted a QAnon video about chemtrails and geoengineering that is being concealed by the military in order to keep Americans sick and dependent on the medical industry.
It’s so frustrating to watch her and her very MAGA husband fall further and further down the QAnon hole. I can’t really do anything but watch her eschew all medicine and retreat further into their estate/compound in the middle of nowhere with all their guns.

Related to a topic I’d like to get going on our food supply in the US. It is hard to go to a rural walmart and not notice the impact of the obesity epidemic there. Americans are increasingly sick and dependent on the medical industry in these areas to make up for the nutritional deficits and abundance of processed foods in their diets. I haven’t found a good starting point for that discussion - you can imagine the number of rabbit holes that exist online, but I can kinda see how people in these areas are looking to blame something and want solutions for this that lead to Qanon conspiracy theories.

At the risk of thread drift, farming subsidies leading to a glut of corn syrup is a good place to start.
It would exist anyway but doesn’t need to be so heavily subsidized that it’s put into everything.

Getting rid of farming subsidies for ethanol would be a good thing too. It’s not linked to obesity though like corn syrup
I’m for eliminating subsidies, etc. but if we’re starting from a QAnon thread, let’s imo not vaguely blame the government without a very clear picture of the impact.
We should get rid of the subsidies. Doing that would have no impact on Americans’ diets.
The corn subsidy is worth about 1/20th of a cent on a 12 oz corn syrup flavored Coke. Or, about 2 cents on a pound of beef.
Those numbers aren’t changing what we eat.

The corn subsidy is about $2 billion/yr. Sounds like a lot, but it’s on a 14 billion bushel crop. That’s 14 cents/bushel. One bushel produces 33 pounds of corn syrup which is enough to sweeten 280 12 oz cans.
Regarding beef, one bushel of corn yields 66 pounds of ground corn which might add 6.6 pounds of marketable weight to a steer.
