If they’re still short, they can try slavery.
From a former AO regular on Facebook:
Yes, that seems extremely likely. Why would they use it for only one thing, an extremely inappropriate thing?
Nothing surprising here to GoActuary participants but well-written
Putin supports US annexation of Greenland.
I thought this hit the nail on the head with respect to DOGE actions in general:
" There’s absolutely nothing controversial about trying to reorganize the sprawling, frequently byzantine structure of HHS, or hacking away at the internal processes and rules that can impede rather than enable progress. Just three years ago, a blue-ribbon commission convened by the Commonwealth Fund—a well-respected, left-leaning think-tank—issued its own call for substantial changes at the department.
But that document was the result of lengthy, careful discussion of priorities and tradeoffs. There are few visible signs that the Trump administration engaged in such deliberations, and plenty of signs that it didn’t—especially at SAMHSA."
Most people would agree that reducing bureaucracy, fraud, and waste in government is a good thing. I certainly do. However, while we hear these touted repeatedly by the administration that’s not what has happened so far. The firings and cancellations made so far have been totally haphazard and with zero thought to priorities and possible bad outcomes. USAID has been destroyed, and it seems the Department of Education and HHS may suffer similar outcomes.
Watched a chilling interview this morning where Fareed Zakaria interviewed Aleksandr Dugin, the Russian intellectual who shapes Putin’s worldview. I don’t yet see the video of the interview on CNN but recommend its viewing to you after it is posted.
Dugin was very convincing in showing how Trump and Putin shared many views, including their distaste for European liberalism, a disregard for weaker countries and their support of traditional Christian values. In summary, Putin and Trump will support each other in carving up their parts of the world for their respective countries.
Made me nostalgic for the Cold War days when the US stood up to Russia rather than facilitate its ambitions.
Dwight Eisenhower made these comments about American history at a 1953 commencement speech at Dartmouth College:
“Don’t join the book burners…Don’t think you are going to conceal faults by concealing evidence that they ever existed.”
In contrast, Donald Trump issued an executive order last week entitled Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History. The purpose is to remove any negative aspects of American history from museums.

Europe has to stand on its own two feet, and can.
