I dunno. It feels like the Democrats have moved from a center-right party to a center-left party over the last 30 years. However, you are correct that the GOP is clearly a far right party.
Yeah, I disagree with most of this. They have moved left a tiny bit on saftey net issues. Their view of speech seems no more illiberal or liberal than it ever was. I’m also curious why you think they were “distinctly non-scientific” on COVID.
Overturning elections to meet the whims of their authoritarian leader.
Banning books that teach tolerance of other races. Banning math books that even hit at word problems about minorities. Those also seem further right.
Metrics disagree with you on this.
That’s a modern stance, though. 50 years ago, many churches were pro-choice. Aka a rightword shift.
I read that article. It seemed their reading was based on how often someone only voted with their party. I might question the methodology. But one thing close to home was the expansion of Medicare that Bush passed in 2003. Not sure any Republican now would even vote for that much less get it passed.
Possibly on some social issues depending how you view them. But most of the social issues democrats back now have well over 50% majority in country opinion polls, even if they are unpopular in some areas.
On other issues while they are obviously left of Republicans it hard not to argue that they are also in the pockets of corporations and haven’t exactly even been friendly to unions so hard to view them as moving left of center on economic issues. It’s just that Republicans keep trying to mislable them as the socialist far left and they the Fox Propaganda machine to push those claims whether or not there is any truth to it.
They wouldn’t vote for Romney’s 2006 healthcare bill when Obama wanted to pass it in 2009. Not a single vote.
I guess it depends on how you are defining these things. But they do tend to have popular support for many of their social platforms.
But you are right about Fox News. They’ve destroyed the minds of millions of people when it comes to politics.
I work for a PBM so I’m really glad the Bush one passed ![]()
I wish that were true, but a lot of idiots get to participate in the decision as well…
Interesting (to me, anyway). True (either in what the words say, or what the message is?) Maybe not. Worth sharing? Yes, IMO
