reasonable compromise would be not to tax some floor amount of tips. Say, $10000 or so. Anything about that is wages.
Simpler: increase the freaking Standard Deduction.
Putting this here since I don’t want to take the time to figure out which of several potential threads this belongs in:
Biggest non-surprise of all time:
**Trump Wins FIFA Peace Prize
After several minutes of intense crowd work from Infantino, a commercial break, a performance from Robbie Williams and Nicole Scherzinger, and another commercial break, United States President Donald Trump is confirmed as the winner of the FIFA Peace Prize.**
Would have been hilarious if it had gone to Carney.
Even though the East Wing has already been torn down to make room for the new ballroom, the plans for said ballroom haven’t even been finished yet.
“We have plans for a plan.”
I assume 900,000 s/b 90,000; which is still gargantuan.
Yes, it’s 90,000, vs. the existing 55,000.
Do you suppose stuff like this can ever be undone?
Some of the more superficial stuff, like firing a huge portion of national park workers and changing dates, is easy to fix. But the current SCOTUS has decided to eliminate constraints that Congress and the prior courts put on the President in response to excesses by FDR and Nixon. Those require a more fundamental change to fix.
Quite a bit of it can be addressed with legislation, if/when responsible adults get the trifecta in the District again.
However, the nature of our political polarization suggests that such a fix will burn the trifecta’s political capital (assuming that poltical capital hasn’t already been burned with some other priority), shifting the pendulum back towards whomever the successors of MAGA will be.
I’ve said it before. The fact that We The People voluntarily elected our Glorious Leader has been sufficient for me to be convinced that it’s time to pull up a chair, pop some popcorn, and watch the catastrophe unfold. I don’t see my view changing in a meaningful way until something big happens to shock the US out of the political gully it’s dug itself into.
I suppose odds are high that Trump will die in the next few years, and the only proper MAGA mourning will be a building like the Lincoln memorial but larger and with much more gilt.
Lots of gilt and maybe a bit of guilt.
You need to be able to self-reflect for that last one…
Pretty sure the ballroom will count. They could put a statue in there and rent it out for weddings. Maybe have an impersonator do the vows like the elvis places in Vegas.
