Love it.

Saw a similar article to the following in my BBC news feed:

Then saw this from the Babylon Bee:

First one is idiotic and shows complete ignorance of the situation and where the migrants came from (typical for babylon bee and the type of ignorance/misinformation that appeals to the people they pander to).

Second one is at least a little funny in the headline, until you pause and realize the fact i think Florida is already overrun by enough Karens already.

But, of course, that is just Babylon Bee being Babylon Bee.

So, not really funny but on point for right wing Christian Conservative types to make fun of these horrific acts by DeSantis

I laughed at the Karen headline.

Are you saying that later reports give nationalities other than Venezuelan for the Martha’s Vineyard asylum seekers? I thought i heard at least some were Venezuelan on NPR. Found a Rachel Maddow opinion that refers to them as Venezuelans. Subsequently shown to be untrue?

I can’t have a debate on what you found funny or not, but the reported nationality is a fact that can be determined.

Well, they had just came from Texas, which has had significantly more issues with blackouts this year than California.

True about TX electricity. So you were meaning “where they came from” as which US state they started in.

The super funny headline said “since the just came from…”

It did so I guess technically you could be right, but I still interpreted that as meaning Venezuela, not Texas/USA. :woman_shrugging:

If I went to the grocery store and then the gas station and then home and then hubs asked me to run to the grocery store, I might say “but I was just there!” Even though my last stop was the gas station, not the grocery store.

I don’t think it automatically means the most recent place you were; I think it means someplace you were fairly recently.

I mean, to get really pedantic, before Texas they were in Mexico (assuming they came over land?) and before Mexico they were in … probably Guatemala or possibly Belize… But it still doesn’t seem wrong to me to claim they just came from Venezuela. That was their most recent permanent home. :woman_shrugging:

Also, I’m pretty sure the “article” wasn’t meant to be taken as seriously as you in your post (and subsequently I in this post) took it.

You got really pedantic there trying to tell me i was being pedantic.

But i guess we should not ignore the utter inaccuracies of the joke that was shared, but rather focus on the type of people that would write stuff like those articles and think that people would find jokes mocking humans being abused and lied to by Republicans governors. I mean, that shit is hilarious. Making fun of brown people’s suffering is top tier republican humor.

I didn’t find the article to be mocking the immigrants at all. I found it to be mocking Gavin Newsom and California (unless Newsom and Californians are the abused people you’re referring to?)

Babylon Bee frequently mocks Gavin Newsom and California.

Nope, no part of the humor at all came from situation they currently in because of DeSantis’s inhumane stunt.
Yup, those people made it to Martha’s Vineyard on their own.

If you honestly think the Bee was mocking the immigrants then I’m not sure you understood the article. Or perhaps you just don’t want to understand it.

The Bee is using them to make a joke in the same way that DeSantis inhumanely used them for political attention.

I honestly don’t see how you cannot see that. Or maybe you just don’t want to see it?

Part of the"humor" is that California offers them a worse situation than where they came from, assuming Venezuela. It’s aimed at Newsome, but it certainly takes a little bit from the fact that they traveled how far again through dangerous territory?
