It is very doctor by doctor. I’m not aware of any rules for requiring any doctor to perform one, perhaps there are recommendations out there. I’ve heard stories of women having to shop 5+ doctors to get one, moreso for women who may be 30 and childless.

In canada, if you’re first nations,there’s no approval process like that. It’s just go ahead and get it done. Sometimes it’s even done as a surprise!

Apologies. I’m bad for thread drift and this doesn’t deserve a thread, so will shut up about this following, but the US legally sterilized some prisoners and other genetic “undesirables” until 1981, and continued doing so illegally afterward.
