Ugh⦠a university is made up of people with moral compasses. And it has a culture where people either know that they should behave morally or they should put the financial position of the university above all else.
It was a middle manager at Tylenol who made the call to issue the recall. He felt confident in doing so because there was a corporate culture of safety and responsibility for which his superiors deserve credit (as does he).
That culture was obviously lacking at USC. Would it make you feel better if I said that leadership at USC should be held to a higher standard than an underprivileged 19 year old girl? To me those are identical statements because holding the university to a standard means holding the leadership at the university to the standard. Iām not mad at the psychology building or a beaker in the chemistry lab and I think thatās obvious.
Are you inferring I think this was a problem?
Or:
Are you implying I think this was a problem?
And, Iām skeptical of a story, any story, on TwiXter. I can wait for confirmation. And even after that, I wonāt be changing my life in any way (unlike this woman allegedly did).
Sure, sure. It seems plausible, but obviously itās possible sheās lying.
Yes, and even then, if this story is true, we didnāt know who made the decision. Was it the football coach? The president of the University? Were a lot of people involved? Whose budget was it?
I guess i didnāt know that much about OJās football career, but it seems odd that a college would have a large budget to protect a student player.
That large budget is to protect the universityās reputation.
And part of that reputation is having a stellar football program with great talent.
A high profile event that generates poor PR will threaten both the football program and the universityās reputation.
If there are criminal charges filed or a civil lawsuit (maybe Ron Goldmanās father can sue because if people would have known about OJās true nature his son would have been more careful) then those questions matter.
In me judging the university they do not. There was an environment where people in leadership roles felt this was ok.
(Assuming the story is true.)

I find it interesting that you call The Weekly World News āthe paper.ā
itās my fave!
Arenāt there a lot of private donors to college football programs? This doesnāt seem odd to me.
My sweet summer child.
Misplaced priority? Yes. Odd? See above
She went to Harvard. They place more emphasis on academics.
