NYC restricts the unvaccinated from participating in society

Heh, one of the comments is:

I really want to respond with:

Except I won’t because yeah, fighting vaccine mandates is dumb and I don’t want to detract from that.

Well, not right away.
The addiction had to spread, via peer pressure.
I never thought about that in this way.

Well, it depends on who you consider your customers.

I’ve mentioned to many that sometimes, you’re really cheaper dead than alive to health insurers. (that’s my husband)

But life insurers really want to keep you alive

(unless you’ve got an immediate annuity/income annuity/whatever they’re calling it now, in which case, they want you dead ASAP)

Or if you’re on disability. Then they might want you dead too. Depends on if they think you might recover, or if you also have a life policy with the same insurer. And if you do, the relative amounts of each… they might still want you dead.

I once had a boss that joked that we should send Christmas cards with McDonalds gift cards enclosed to our disability claimants in the stable claims unit. ie the folks who were expected to be on claim until they reached the end of their benefit period - usually age 65 or SSNRA - rather than dying or recovering. But only if they didn’t also have a life policy with us.

In practice, the only product that an insurer cares about on an individual claim level is ltd. They’ll make some effort to get individuals off ltd and will spend some money sometimes. Everything else, they don’t really care about valid individual benefit claims.

Meh. Only 5% or so of insureds fall into that category.
