I read about this story quite a while ago…it sounds like it’s having a happier ending…

Tl;dr: racists being racist. African American man perseveres; will serve as mayor of rural AL town.

Yeah I was thinking obvious. Especially knowing what we pay compared to other countries.

That is just the tip of the iceberg for Walters. You don’t have to dig very deep to find the oodles of ridiculous stuff he has said and done. His book banning attempts might be on par with Florida’s, except the OK Supreme Court is apparently not in his pocket.

This is just one recent article:

OK’s School Superintendent again:

Bible Must Be Taught in Classrooms

How did dude know to be pointing his camera at that specific location at that specific time/moment?

Edit: oh..it’s supposedly a security camera

Lot more action in the second half. First half was setting the scene, I guess.

Moral of the story. If you have a tendency to play out your dreams probably best not to sleep in the same bed as a 13 to 15 year old.

WTF is he doing in the same bed as the kid?

That was my first question too! tf!

the moonwalk?

Per my teacher friend: Yes, leave it to the literature teachers who teach how to deconstruct and criticize texts to teach the Bible to children. Have them write essays identifying contradictions and whether events such as the Tower of Babel were literal or metaphorical stories. Let the teachers educate the students on how to critically read the Bible, because none of it makes any goddamn sense.

Like, sure, I’d trust the literature teachers to foster some great discussion. But I don’t think it needs to be required for every literature class in every grade. Nor every history class in every grade. And it definitely doesn’t need to be in math class. I forget which book it was that talked about 6 things, then 7 things, and then there would be a list that was neither 6 nor 7. A friend of mine who has done more scholarly Biblical study than I have explained that this is metaphor. But it would be awfully confusing in math class.

Hmmm… not sure about 6 vs 7.

God rested on the 7th day of creation, so the work was done in 6 days but we usually say that God created the world in 7 days to signify that rest is an important part of work.

There is widespread agreement that there are 10 commandments and what they say… but they are numbered differently. That is, there is NOT agreement on where one commandment ends and the next one starts. (Thou shalt not commit adultery is the 6th commandment if you’re Catholic but the 7th if you’re most forms of Protestant, as an example.)

And the Bible says that Noah took 2 of every kind of animal on the ark (for procreation) but also says that he took 7 of the clean animals, or in some translations I think it’s 7 pairs even… presumably the extras are for food since that is only the clean animals.

Anyway, yes, Bible as literature is fine, but it doesn’t need to be in every lit class, let alone every class. Completely agree.
