Given that Al Bundy, Homer Simpson, and Peter Griffin are among the most famous TV fathers over my lifetime, I would argue the terrible dad trope is very common. Or if you turn on Fox News and listen to Jesse Waters, he regularly espouses those beliefs. There are plenty of dads that I have seen post stories about how they were harassed for sitting and watching their kids play at the park, especially in more conservative areas.
Studies with obvious results? Giving trans people hormones is a good idea.
Some positive trans news: Nikki Hiltz won their 5th consecutive national title in the 1500m, and became the first person in 5 years to sweep 1500 and 3000m races at the US indoor championships.

Yeah, it’s helpful to actually hear from people who understand in issue.
On the flip side, lack of representation is why the first iteration of the apple watch didn’t track menstrual cycles in its health app. Probably the single most tracked piece of health data, and they ignored it.

I hope no one is still using apps to track their cycle at this point. There is a very high risk of your data being turned over to cops if they think your data indicates you are pregnant in order to enforce anti-abortion measures.
How do we live in a society where that is actually a legitimate fear?

I think some years ago we had some organizations that assisted in gay folks immigrating to Canada but last I looked they seemed defunct. We’ve got a liberal gov’t now, maybe he’ll put some refreshed effort into it.

Cis people being weird about trans people makes me think about king crabs.
Bear with me for this one because it will make sense.
You know king crabs, right? Giant crab, lives up north, has long legs, very expensive and tasty, featured on many a mukbang. Did you know they are technically not crabs?
Things have a habit of evolving to look like crabs, so there is the infraorder for true crabs called brachyura while king crabs come from the infraorder anomura, which is for false crabs. Can the general public tell false crabs from true crabs easily? Not really because they’re basically the same
As long as something has 6 legs, 2 claws, and is in a general crab shape, it is for all intents and purposes a crab. No one goes to a restaurant and makes a stink that the king crab is in a tank with other crabs despite not being a crab because it is identified as a crab.
No one flips over the crabs at the seafood market to check their abdomens for the traces of a tail true crabs don’t have. If you do, you would be seen as an absolute weirdo and get kicked out. This basically how terfs/transphobes behave. They want to inspect all the crabs in the tank for no reason.
The pedantic difference between a false crab and a true crab is not something anyone cares about unless they’re a scientist doing very specific studies, and that’s how we all should be with trans people. Cis or trans? Who cares. Once hormones get involved especially there’s minimal difference.
If hormones aren’t involved and it’s just about clothes and name changes, who cares. It still isn’t your business to rip off a hermit crab’s shell and point out it isn’t a real crab and shouldn’t be called a crab (yes, they are false crabs too).
They would be mean and weird, so don’t do it.Things turn into crabs because it is beneficial to them. People transition because it is beneficial to them and helps them survive. Horseshoe crabs don’t pass as crabs very well, yet we still call them horseshoe crabs. If someone says they’re something, then they are. That’s it.
If you can respect that anything remotely crab shaped is crab, then congrats, you can respect trans people and their identities as you would a cis person’s no matter how good or bad they perform their gender.

it’s not that long of an analogy for me. it seems in a country so hell bent on proclaiming personal freedoms, that people should be free to do whatever the hell they want. including being trans. someone else’s opinion on the matter should boil down to a big f u,.this is a free country, mind your own business.
it also seems that people who value that freedom should be invested in the freedoms of trans people and be concerned when those freedoms are infringed.
