Maybe not all of the members, but I think of them as a Damon Albarn (Blur) project.
First listen-through, there is a clear standout for me so far (other than my submission!)
- Leave a light on is maybe the only Iâd choose to listen to, except
- Wonderwall is a classic, but the furthest from ânewâ for me (seventh-grade school dance flashbacks), and
- Galway Girl. Love the song, good memories from Galway, but not new and I donât love Ed Sheeran. Heâs fine.
- The Great Escape was okay. I wouldnât return to listen again but yeah, not bad.
I remember making that connection one day where I was like âwow thats the same singerâ. Song 2 is a 90âs classic
Lots of good songs this week. I wouldnât be surprised to see a wide distribution of votes as I thought quite a few were contention-worthy. Two I knew really well already and enjoy both as nostalgic hits (Gorillaz and Wonderwall). Ended up voting for a new one I liked.
Bumping for votes!
I always feel rushed with this game. The timelines are short.
I was thinking the same thing this week. Weâve been getting fewer votes and I think it might be best to make it a little more casual and give a full week or so for voting.
- Yes
- No
- I plead the 5th
0 voters
Iâm libel to forget to vote the longer the window is but Iâm ok either way.
I liked a lot of these song. In the end I was between Flathead and Dream Catch Me. But something I just liked a little more about Flathead, I think it was the guitar riff.
And this was another week I submitted a new to me song. Found a couple other ânewâ British bands I liked in addition to the Lathums I my use one or two for a future category.
On band I really wanted to like was âLetâs Eat Grandmaâ but I just couldnât really get into their music, I didnât hate it, just wasnât really my thing. Unfortunately youtube now thinks they should be in âmy mixâ.
Iâm a big fan of The Fratellis, their most famous is Chelsea Dagger (thanks Chicago Blackhawks and beer commercials) but everything from their Costello Music album is solid including my favorite which is Flathead (which is why I submitted it).
It was a tough choice this week, and I went back and forth between The Great Escape and Câmon Billy before ultimately voting for the Lathums. Dream Catch Me was also in the mix.
Clint Eastwood is a classic in my mind but not enough so to pull my vote away from a new to me song. Had âDelilahâ by Tom Jones been submitted instead of âDaughter of Darknessâ, well maybe olâ Jonesy wouldâve got some love this round.
My favorite YouTube comment on the fratellis song-
âWe could only afford ten seconds of choreography, so for the rest of the time, we just told the girls to sit there and wiggle awkwardly.â
:exams:
I felt similarly, the song was okay, didnât love or hate it, but the music video put me off.
Dream Catch Me the bridesmaid, apparently, on this one.
Alright, Iâve had at least 3 requests for this one, so here we go:
Round 7: Submit a song that makes you want to dance
Iâm going to extend this round and see how it goes. Everyone will have until Monday morning to submit a song, and then we will have until Friday midday to vote.
Maybe I should have saved Florence for this one. When it comes on at a wedding my wife and I get pretty pumped up to dance.
Donât know peoplesâ dance preferences here, not sure my submission will jive with the group, but I had to.
I think I will be judging this one less on my taste for the song/newness to me and more on how much that song literally makes me want to dance.
Semi-related, I really like that the voting rules are - vote for whatever one you want for whatever reason you want and that we all donât have to rely on the same method for voting (or even be consistent week to week).
Just posted the poll, realized one of the songs was not allowed. Deleted it, forgot to save the text, now I have to build the poll again from scratch woops. Will be posted later
