Nervous Thoughts

I recall joking with the guy that became the new IT lead for a project that i was on that be should be prepared to be lost for a good three months, and somewhere around 6 months will finally be feeling comfortable. This was a pretty broad, complex project.

When does it feel natural? I guess that’s when you realize you know more about x than practically everyone else in the room. Doesn’t mean you know every answer.

I’m getting a cavity filled tomorrow. I asked for laughing gas. I hope I have very little memory of the procedure, because due to a couple really traumatic experiences with fillings (Novocain doesn’t work very well on me, they have to max dose me and then switch to the stronger stuff that numbs half my face, but not until they’ve tested each shot and seen it wasn’t effective, very painful) I am off the charts anxious about this one.

I am also novocaine resistant. The dentist has not had to switch to something different, but the combination of more of it and waiting another 10 minutes seems to work.

Would have been good to know this before the vasectomy procedure…

Is this a new dentist or have they had this past experience with you? I am certain they don’t want you to have a bad experience, so be up front about how anxious you are. Do you handle xanax ok?

New dentist, too many bad experiences with my last one and they didn’t offer nitrous. I went to this new one for a cleaning and she was very nice, so I’m optimistic.

I have never tried Xanax before, but I’m hoping to be able to go to work after, so I think this is the better option to try first!

Porque no los dos?

My mom needs a xanax before MRIs. If you are highly anxious about a cleaning, it might be a decent balance of risks.

My first ever surgery, the anesthesiologist (or assistant) came in before, checked my bp and said, Are you nervous? I said yes, slightly. How do you tolerate xanax? No idea. Would you object to taking a half dose? Not in the slightest, if you think it will help :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: i remember going into preop from there, didn’t notice any cognitive changes or relaxation for 10-15 minutes, got a bair hugger (warm air circulator) on my legs, said this would be nice for winter for the house, and lose all memory from there. Next thing i remember was getting dressed and asking Mrs.G if this was same room i was in before preop.

The laughing gas worked pretty well, but it took a while to take effect and sadly it wasn’t fully kicked in during the drilling. But I survived. The Novocain worked ok this time, although the shot hurt more than usual and my jaw is still pretty sore, so I think the dentist hit something.

Not the best experience I’ve had, but certainly not the worst. I’d probably ask for a little more lead time on the gas next time, but I’m definitely getting it. Glad I did the gas only, so I could go right to work after.

Deep filling?

I just found out I have a cavity between two teeth (one in enamel only and the other is slightly into the dentin)

I’m super annoyed because I’ve had multiple x rays taken over the past 20 years and there has always been slight overlap between my molars on the X-rays which hid the cavity on the x ray. Feels like the doctor holding his finger over the crayon episode of the simpsons

Anyways I am also nervous as heck. First cavity in about 15 years, and the first one that has gone past the enamel. I’m considering going to a new dentist where the dental assistant taking x rays has more training and can consistently take bite wing x rays of my molars and premolars with open contacts between each tooth

I’m not sure if mine was deep, but it was a filling that had fallen out so possibly. I don’t get many cavities, I didn’t get my first until I was in my twenties, which probably contributes to my anxiety.

I’m used to tornado watches living in Kansas. We just got a tsunami watch here, that’s a new one.

It took me a second to remember you weren’t at home when you posted this. As a result, this one reminded me of your situation

Well, so far it looks like the tsunami will be ok. I’m hearing reports of 5’ waves but I’ve been watching webcams of beaches here and I’m not seeing anything alarming.

We did go inland to high ground but have returned to the condo. Which is right on the yellow/green line in terms of tsunami flood risk, but if needed we could leave the unit and walk up a pretty steep hill to easily get 50’ higher.

Whenever there is a tsunami warning like this one I am reminded of this story:

I had a nervous thought earlier. I smashed my big toe hard enough last year that the nail had separated from the toe, but under the middle of the nail. It had been growing out with a loose flappy part getting, well looser as it grew out and was trimmed back. I finally thought it was time to get rid of what was left, and deal with the consequence (my doc suggested to let it grow out as well).

So I cut it back, thinking I’d have about a quarter inch of exposed whatever you call it that’s under a toenail. To my surprise, there was just another fully formed nail that had grown underneath the loose part, like two full layers. Looks almost normal again!

Lucky. I had my big toenail fall off enough times in high school from distance running that it now doesn’t grow back right. It’s really thick and ugly. I hate it.

How far do you need to run for a toenail to fall off? I’ve only done 10k length runs and I’ve never thought that could be s consequence.

It wasn’t from a single run, it was repeated running with weird toes. Cuz yeah, I have weird toes, they’re super long and my running shoes were probably not the best ones.

i have 6.5-8.5 such nails on a good day. lifetime of distance running. i wear closed toe everythings

My kid is having his upper endoscopy now.
