Need a router

That’s funny, I’d call ignoring a direct order masochistic, or at least more so than calling cable company.

My OnlyFans channel does have a spike in usage around that time…

Too close to call, IMO.
On the one hand, I need my supply of sex.
On the other hand, I have another hand…

YOU KEEP MY WIFE’S EYES OUT OF YOUR ONLYFANS!!!

When you got the shoes, you’ve got the shoes.

I can’t win!! Someone gets bored with the same old shoes…

Neighborhood brats.

With cable, everyone in the neighborhood is sharing bandwidth. Thus if there’s a problem that’s consistently happening at hours when the brats are likely to be at peak usage…

However, fiber capacity isn’t as shared within the neighborhood, and the signal should be less sensitive to noise/interference from other users.

OK, tried the Frontier chat bot, no help at all.
On the phone, ten minute wait.
I’m just going to ask for a new modem, same as the old modem.

Shoot. on hold, but I’m also out of water… hmm, think I’ll make the dash for the water…

Ok, I’m back.

I asked the bot for a new modem. It proceeded to check the internet connection, which I am using to chat. Connection’s fine, says bot. Anything else I can help you with?

On phone with live person (it seems). telling me all about my wireless blah blah, do you have extenders blah blah.
I had to tell her (I assume), that it is the modem and I want a new one. So, should arrive on Tuesday (damn long weekend!)

Now, most places send you a return box or label with the equipment. No, I’m now on the call with another person to send me a box and label.
OK, that person told me that the modem will come already with a return label and I can use the same box. Glad to know they all know how their company works.
So, let’s see what happens at 3:30 today.

So, awaiting the first break-down of the day.

  1. 4:17PM PDT
  2. Nothing since. Currently 5:13 PM PDT.
  3. Little glitch at 6:15, but righted itself.

Another note: the cable “box” near the power box is in the sun right about this time. That doesn’t explain why it has only been since Sunday that this has happened.

Last Saturday night I had my Fantasy draft group over. no issues all night. But, that couldn’t have affected anything, right?

Tonight, when I get home from “Fun Poker” Night, I will unplug the Modem and plug it back in when I wake up. See if “cooling off” the Modem has an effect on the daily 4PM shutdown.

OK, it is the next day and I unplugged the modem last night and it was plugged in this morning.
Let’s see if this performs better with a little cooling off period. Not as warm as usual.

EDIT: And, the modem came today. Let’s see if it is what I already have…
New modem in, no issues.
But, it is warming up. Not hot to the touch, but nearly as warm as the old one… So, I’m guessing it is not the modem that is the problem. Brats. It’s always brats.

  1. 4:14PM: Internet connection down.

Around the same time every day. New modem.

Sounds like your neighborhood likes their data.

Tgat, or some scheduled reboot/refresh of something is happening.
This eould make more sense if a) it happened atvthe exact same time or b) the interney connectio didn’t go off multiple times for the next couple of hours.

But why only since this Sunday?

It’s off again right now, replugging. Went out and it went diwn twice more in 30 minutes.

Maybe a new house has been added and pushed over the limit for the node?

Could be a bad box somewhere prompting some restart. (Reddit)
That shouldn’t require me to restart my modem, though. But I’m no expert.

If you are friendly with your neighbors, you could ask them if they have similar timing/ problems.

I asked my wife to do that. As she has the contacts. She went on Facebook instead.
One person replied that they are experiencing a similar problem.

OK., back on after a long restart (i.e., it took a long time for the light to turn green).

what’s the latest, greatest encryption standard to make sure to get? WPA3 ?

What is WPS and why would I want it?

OK, again yesterday around the 4PM mark, and on/off until about 6:30PM or so; new modem.
Son says it’s the router/wi-fi (a separate Nighthawk), but the “globe” (internet) light goes red on the modem, to which the router is connected. And the phone connection goes down, which has nothing to do with the Nighthawk.

We have taken to not unplugging and plugging the modem. It restarts itself after each “off” incident.
So, it’s definitely something between Frontier central control and my modem. On-Phone service people have no idea. Check the internet, say it’s fine, and I say, of course it is, I’m talking to you on the phone which is connected to the modem…

I mean, imagine everything was hooked up to the wi-fi: AC control, irrigation, pool (it actually is, but nothing set for the times it goes off), the oven (it can be, but we use it like a regular), my grille probes (yes they are, and that is prime cooking time), refrigerator, …
