Granted, basically to himself or another company he controls.
I wonder if it was to save whatever he put up for collateral?
It would not be a surprise to find out that the original loans were “bought back” at face value to “buy out” Twitter by getting new financing from the same banks that issued the original loans. That way, all the original loans were “paid off” so no one had to take a loss, and the can gets kicked down the road however long when hopefully there’s more suckers willing to pay for the giant pile of shit.
The valuation is original price minus debt, so I suspect that is a big part of it.
i remember during the dot com boom when it seemed like there was almost unlimited capital for any company with “.com” in the name.
something similar seems to be happening with “ai” now. (though at least the dot com bubble had technology that was clearly working, with only “monetization” in question. it’s not clear to me that the ai boom has anything more than apparently promising demonstrations, at least with respect to its promises.)
so maybe the whole point was to get it associated with “ai”. and perhaps the intent is to train off all the twitter posts.

Bluesky is starting to annoy me. Not in a “the platform is dying” kind of way, but in the same way social media sites like FB obviously do not give a shit about what I don’t want to see and keeps showing that content anyway, no matter how many times I say don’t show me any of that content where trying to mute words either won’t work or will be way too broad.
Just so you know, you are the one who chose to create an account. It all starts with you. You created the problem. You know what the solution is.
twitter seemed fit to log me out of my account. i leave it logged in on my phone and laptop. but it logged me out on both now. that’s a sign I don’t need it. should delete it to make sure it doesn’t somehow get hacked
