Require them to put their money where their mouth is: pony up personal assets to insure FL/Gulf hurricanes, Western wildfires, and flood. If the evil insurance companies are making bank covering this stuff, they should be happy to step in.
the carte blanche of all this is the supreme court ruling that the president can’t be charged for in-office criming. makes any court order unenforceable bc the president will not have any consequences. and enforcement of a court order all falls to an executive branch entity…who won’t pursue. so all the stuff with lawsuits and hopes for injunctions to block/re-instate likely won’t mean anything
The people carrying out the orders and doing the criming could still be charged, although again it would have to be by themselves.
those charges would be pursued by whom exactly? that’s the rub
That’s a problem that is independent of the SCOTUS. I disagree with the ruling, but the problem is with Republicans being unwilling to challenge Trump, not the relatively narrow immunity ruling that still doesn’t (in theory) allow the administration to ignore the law.
i think they are both problems. historically, congress would challenge the nonsense. (I recall when the biden crime family grifting money was bad. but $100M for a tesla ad is good.)
the two issues combine to…see thread title
They can also be pardoned.
FL mayor threatens shutting theater if they keep showing No Other Land

How depressing. Palestine supporters have become the new commies in America. McCarthy would be pleased.
Betar, which has been labelled an extremist group by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), a Jewish advocacy group, said on Monday that it had “been working on deportations and will continue to do so”, and warned that the effort would extend beyond immigrants. “Expect naturalized citizens to start being picked up within the month,” the group’s post on X read. (It is very difficult to revoke US citizenship, though Trump has indicated an intention to try.)
The group has compiled a so-called “deportation list” naming individuals it believes are in the US on visas and have participated in pro-Palestinian protests, claiming these individuals “terrorize America”.
A Betar spokesperson, Daniel Levy, said in a statement to the Guardian that Betar submitted “thousands of names” of students and faculty they believe to be on visas from institutions like Columbia, the University of Pennsylvania, UCLA, Syracuse University and others to representatives of the Trump administration.
This is a big red flag.
They are even trying to silence the diplomats.
Trump is going after 3 law firms in 3 distinct executive orders. One of them rescinds security clearances of anyone who worked with Jack Smith as a client, the most recent one goes after not just a law firm, but also any clients of that law firm. It’s a crazy abuse of power to target individual law firms, let alone their clients.
Trump in an executive order directed federal agencies to scrap contracts with companies who are Paul Weiss clients. The president also authorized agencies to suspend Paul Weiss employees’ security clearances and limit their access to federal buildings.
Trump is looking to strike a blow to prominent firms that he views as enemies by scaring off their corporate clients, even if the moves don’t stand up in court. The Paul Weiss order came two days after a federal judge blocked a similar order against Seattle-founded Perkins Coie, saying the idea that the president could wield such power “sends little chills down my spine.”
Probably not a coincidence that Trump ordered Voice of America shut down right after he got a question he didn’t like
The DOJ is currently arguing in court that Trump has the authority to deport any non-citizen* without any due process if he wants to.
*I added the non citizen part as my interpretation. However, I would not be surprised if he extended the argument to citizens.
Stuff like this is right out of the banana republic playbook
That’s the case above I am referencing about deportation with zero due process: ICE pulls up in a van, grabs them, and they are on a plane to wherever with no legal recourse is the argument.
He was saying on the campaign trail that he was going to do that. Seemed blatantly illegal to me then, still feels that way now.
I think this is the relevant part of that law:
Whenever there is a declared war between the United States and any foreign nation or government, or any invasion or predatory incursion is perpetrated, attempted, or threatened against the territory of the United States by any foreign nation or government, and the President makes public proclamation of the event, all natives, citizens, denizens, or subjects of the hostile nation or government,
It seems that any judge would say that the government of Venezuela is not invading the US, and that a gang is not a government. So, the law doesn’t apply.
But, what do I know about judges? I thought his ask for immunity was ridiculous, but it turns out the Chief Justice disagrees with me.
