Four year-old, Nazi salutes, my doing a bit of planning for my European trip…
A Canadian friend of mine sent me this (appeared in globe & mail).
Election interference could also be on the cards.
Thanks, this is excellent. All one needs to know about the US-Canada situation. Coincidentally, I was watching a CBC interview with Lloyd Axworthy just before you posted this.
There are things Canada would have done differently over the past 50 years if we had known the Americans would not continue to be our allies. However we naively assumed we would always have a friendly, mutually beneficial relationship with the USA economically and politically. As a result we have dug ourselves into a bit of a hole. It will be painful in the short to medium term for Canada to change its relationship with the USA but that has become necessary for our long term viability.
Maybe Trump has done Canadians a favour by revealing the risks of close ties with the USA. I think both countries have benefitted from our historical ties but we are now looking at divorce.
The Trump tariff attack on Canada is just stupid.
Canada has more natural resources than it can consume by itself so it should be an exporting nation. The USA needs those resources and currently there are zero obstacles for us to buy as much from Canada as we want to.
The US economy is ten times the size of the Canadian one and shares its borders. Both countries are functioning democracies and respect the rule of law, for now anyway. I don’t think it was naive of Canada to pin its economic future on trading with the USA as that was perfectly logical.

Hegseth’s response on Fox News this morning: We want lawyers who don’t exist or attempt to be roadblocks.
Which kinda sorta more than agrees.
The Trump administration is sacking a trio of top military lawyers — with multiple firings coming down Friday — because it doesn’t want them to be “roadblocks to anything that happens” over the next four years, according to Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.
“We want lawyers who give sound constitutional advice,” Hegseth told Shannon Bream on Fox News Sunday in response to the firings of three judge advocates general aka “JAGs” for the Army, Navy and Air Force. “And don’t exist to attempt to be roadblocks to anything that happens in their spots.”
The Congresscritters are on the clock now.
The backlash is mounting.
If they don’t stand up to Trump they will lose all credibility with their voters.
Just watched the Rick Steves documentary on the history of fascism in Europe. (Rick Steves talked yesterday about fascism at the LA travel conference my daughter is attending and she suggested I watch it.) The political divide within America was vividly illustrated by the audience reaction to his talk: many folks walked out whereas many others applauded.
This is encouraging.
Does anyone (I’m directing this at everyone, not specifically Poly) have a draft of a letter to send to elected Republican Congress Critters? I could come up with something but if there’s good copy out there I’d love to not reinvent the wheel.
I also have a lot of family members with 1-3 Republicans representing them in Congress (mostly 3).
I just got 2 brm envelopes from a rnc fund raising letter. I first thought of sending some defunct pb acid bstteries to run up the postage bill, but i am drafting something. If it gets to a reasonable place, i,'ll share.
Dog poop?
Out of curiosity, what was he referring to in that post from 9 months ago?
Regardless of the answer to that question
.
I was wondering that myself.
At last year’s CPAC, Trump again shared a story about Caine—this time stating that general told him: “I love you, sir. I think you’re great, sir. I’ll kill for you, sir.” But what really seemed to seal the deal for Trump was that Caine then allegedly put on a MAGA hat, despite military protocol prohibiting active-duty troops from donning any clothing with a political message.
Caine has not served in any of the roles — Joint Chiefs vice chairman, chief of staff for one of the branches of the armed service, or head of a combatant command — that nominees are legally required to have performed in order to be nominated. The president, however, may waive those requirements if he “determines such action is necessary in the national interest.”

WELL, you will all figure out my feelings on this matter!!! From the quoted article:
In 2019, at the Conservative Political Action Conference, Trump shared his first meeting with Caine in Iraq, where the general introduced himself by his nickname “Razin.”
"‘Raisin, like the fruit?’ He goes, ‘Yes, sir, Razin.’
