And also from momma cat in the back, although that looks like a little bit less of a “hello” and more of a “what are you doing with my baby?”
Mama is super chill, and the bond she has with those babies is heartwarming. She has a perimeter of purr, and all babies will purr if within this boundary.
This morning I released the krakens to the entire upstairs level and now there’s nothing but small cats zooming in and out of every room. I’m almost certain I’m going to lose one, or all of them. Of course the most interesting part of the upstairs are the boxes barricading the stairs.
The zoomies are the best! Dot looks like she’s prancing as she hauls @$$ down the hallway, it’s hilarious. The others are learning the sideways dance where they play/fight. It’s so cute.
The younger kitties are a lot more active at 4 weeks (3 weeks after we brought them inside) than the older kittens were at 4 weeks (when we brought them inside).
We’re thinking it’s probably due to the amount of human interaction they’ve had in their little short lives. The younger ones learned that activity equals food (although not really in that causal order, except for Dot who is an escape artist who starts searching about 15 minutes before food is due) while the older ones just had to wait for mom to come back, whenever that happened, not on their timetable.
My littles are 2 pounds+ now, so I’m going to lose them to adoptions soon . They’re basically CATS.
Awww, sorry That’s a bummer. My spouse decided we’re keeping two of the bigs (the tiny big went to her new home already) and thus we are doubling our resident cat population.
We’ve been working on teaching the two bigs and the half-blind dog to get along, it’s a process.
My youngest thinks we should swap out one of the bigs for Dot because she’s just got this awesome personality. My youngest also thinks we should just go from 2 cats to 8 cats.
My kittens were 2 pounds like 2-3 weeks ago, and they’re still heeeeere. Spay surgeries are next Monday, so they will go up for adoption real soon (we still might get them back until the actual adoptions take place because of COVID stuffs). Mama cat apparently needs another 2 weeks post-kittens to dry up for her own surgery.
This 2-3 week commitment seems to be taking a WHILE . I don’t mind though. My poor resident cats certainly mind ever since I released the krakens and let them take over the entire house. My poor Bert was hiding under boxes in the garage, and Goobs was sitting in the same spot under my daughter’s bed for 2 days. We had to lock the kittens up last night just to give them a stress break.
Fosters have peed on my duvet and a few times on my living room bean bag chair. Taking on more kitten groups is gonna be a hard sell in the future if I have to deodorize the entire house every time I take them in. Sigh.
Now I really am wondering if I should keep 1 (or 2?) of them in case I never get a bunch again. But then I will have so many cats. For the record, 7 cats is way too many cats.
Update: Mama cat peed on my feet in bed at 3 am last night. She’s also boning Bert now. (Congratulations on their pending nuptials). I think we’re gonna need a foster transfer.
This is where I look on the brights side that kid pee washes out easier than cat pee.
DO KITTENS EVEN FEEL PAIN?!?
Oddie and me are feeling the effects of sleep deprivation, meanwhile these little f—ers just had major surgery and are already bunny-kicking each other in the face. HOW do you prevent four shitheads from climbing/diving off of things and straining themselves after surgery? You do not, that is how.
So we are applying for a foster transfer for mama cat for a few reasons: (1) she won’t stop boning our male cat, (2) she peed on everything, (3) separating her from the kittens for 2 weeks is not going to happen (particularly now that we are adopting one of the kittens).
Yes we are adopting a kitten (Melo, the dramatic one that will probably grow up to be an asshole. I don’t know why I do this to myself but I love her.) You can adopt one of the others yourself here:
Good luck with #2, especially if a lot of carpet is involved.
Yeah, we need to buy new mattresses for the kids, and RIP to my living room beanbag chair. My own duvet should be ok.
As for the carpets, I bought this carpet cleaner.
I could never really get rid of the smell no matter how much I cleaned the carpet. It seemed at best to cover it up for a bit, but it all tended to come out any time I opened up the windows and the humidity pulled it out of the carpet.
Carpets got pulled up and replaced with hardwood. Painted over a couple of bad areas with kilz before the hardwood went in.
At this point, I don’t think we have any carpet direct hits (litter box fallout mostly). But I hear you.
