Masks

during sars I was changing planes in toronto and can confirm the ubiquity of asians wearing masks at the airport at that time.

In the airport in a red state, blue city to go back home. I’d estimate about 1% are wearing masks.

i was in NYC this weekend. About half of the people on the subway were masked, maybe a bit more.

While mask mandates have mostly gone by the wayside, they’re still in place in medical settings around here.

I just witnessed a rather argumentative lady escorted off the premises of a vampire’s office. She was not pleased that they are still requiring masks AND limiting the number of people who can wait inside.

Blood donation?

They’re still technically required at the pharmacy but I almost never see anyone wearing a mask when picking up their prescription and the staff doesn’t seem to mind.

Tests on bodily fluids.

I live right on the border between two counties. The one I live in reinstated masks in indoor settings. The adjacent one has not. I go places in both counties, and it seems like mask wearing is 30%-50% in the neighboring county, and 80%-90% in mine. On a hot day recently, I purposely picked a grocery store in the neighboring county because I did not want to wear a mask. I wonder if there is a noticeable impact to businesses right on the border with folks going to the other county if they do or do not want a mask mandate where they go.

A bit over a week ago, I took a road trip from New England, over to southern Illinois, then up through Ontario and Québec, then home. I saw no masks being worn once I left New England, until I stopped to buy baby formula in Québec. I didn’t bother to mask since I wasn’t spending more than a couple of minutes around other people, at least until I stopped to visit a friend who was just getting over his loss of his V-card.

I’m now sitting in a blue-land airport, using up some flight credit that was about to expire with a quick overnight trip. Until a moment ago, the only mask I saw was on my face. (Just saw a janitor pass by, protecting his chin with a mask.)

I don’t think that counts.

I still shake my head when I see somebody wearing a mask incorrectly when it’s optional. What are they trying to accomplish?

Maybe the person puts it off and on as he gets closer to people rather than continually wear it or was taking a break from said mask because it was annoying. Those people might wear it correctly part of the time. Ive done that

I hadn’t thought about that, fair point.

I see the chin maskers while shopping so there are plenty of other people nearby. My theory is that they do it to claim that they’re wearing a mask.

Or maybe they’re required to by their employer, maybe because they’re not vaccinated. Let’s hope that’s not the case.

Is easier for me to leave it on than to mentally keep track of when and when I shouldn’t take it off. It’s like taking off your seatbelt or helmet at every red light and then scrambling to put it back on when it turns green. Not worth the hassle, just leave it on.

I’ve definitely been shaving way less often. Maybe if I just shave the part outside the mask it would save time. But that would look weird when I do zoom calls at home I guess.

Whether I shave on a given day is dependent on whether I have any scheduled Teams meetings beyond the daily team huddle (which we don’t bother turning on our cams for).

More than once when someone has wanted a quick unscheduled meeting I’ve had to say “give me 5 minutes to get to a stopping point in what I’m working on”.

I’ve generally worn masks when going into businesses throughout the pandemic. I made exceptions for sporting events when the COVID rate was low, but since it’s very active in my area now I masked up for a soccer game today. I was in the extreme minority.
