Masks

I dunno. I went to a masks-optional event. About 1/3 wore masks, the rest didn’t. The people who wore masks wore fairly serious, “protect me” masks. Except for one guy, who wore a surgical mask below his nose for the entire event.

No one else cared whether he was wearing a mask. I think he’s just dumb, and doesn’t understand how masks work or something.

I’ve had that conversation with myself many times in the pandemic. “I need to go out, so I better shave. Oh wait, I’ll be wearing a mask the whole time. Never mind” We don’t do camera-on meetings at my company, so I never have to worry about being presentable for work.

I know you’re in the south, so I’m curious. Did you get any dirty looks or comments for wearing a mask? I was also at a crowded soccer game yesterday. I’m sure there were people wearing masks there, but if other people wear masks is so off my radar that I don’t remember seeing anybody. I’m just trying to get a couple beers and get back to my seat by kickoff. Who cares what strangers are or aren’t wearing on their face?

No one has ever commented on my wearing a mask. If there were any dirty looks I didn’t notice.

Interestingly, I saw a few people masked at the Orioles game I attended yesterday. I was not one of them, although I did reconsider that decision while in the mob exiting the ballpark after the game.

There are plenty of people who care. Why do they care? They are idiots who believe specific other people and act on those people’s beliefs.

Again, my answer, “you dont know where I’ve been,” should answer any snide questions anyone has. Should simultaneously imply that you dont wear your mask merely for your own health. You also do it for others, and what dicks they are for not doing the same.
Implication, unfortunately, requires critical thinking skills.

Your mask will fit better if you shave.

Can I at least leave a little bit of the mustache

For the long time I thought they were called the Oreos.

Is it within the bounds of the N95 seal?

Should’ve been more clear, as JFG says, if the facial hair is all inside the N95 it’s fine.

no RN? It was a bad joke I guess

You are correct. If you wear a mask correctly, you’ll probably need no RN.

Mask mandates are coming back

I’d been embarrassed seeing chocolate on my face after returning from the store until I realized no one would have noticed since I wore a mask.

The CDC has changed its advice from “Wear a well fitting mask or respirator…” to “Wear a high quality mask or respirator (e.g., N95)…”

Last night I went to a home poker game. One of the guests showed up wearing a mask. Right off the bat, she said “I have a cold, guys. I don’t want to get anyone else sick.” And that was that. Even in the rural, right leaning area we were in, wearing a mask because you feel a little ill was considered totally normal.

It turns out instead of having a cold, she has a crappy poker face, and used the mask as a way to improve her game.

That’s so funny because I almost included a comment about that. She’s an older lady who is clearly comes for fun and the social aspect. Plus it’s just a $25 buy-in.

That being said, I might cough cough be coming down with a little bug at next month’s game.
