Yeah, we can argue about weeks. But, think that the FL law allows most abortions, the TX law narrows the window a lot.
Isnāt that already mandated? Well, not free, but isnāt prenatal and delivery considered Essential Health Benefits?
I seriously doubt that piece of Obamacare is ever going to be repealed and not replaced with something that also provides for such coverage. IMO that ship has sailedā¦ it would be such a talking point for the Dems and those Republicans want to keep their cushy jobs.
TX and OK already banned abortion. Not sure about other states. In TX, the law was written that anyone who helps a woman leave the state to get an abortion is also subject to penalty. I seem to recall something saying the state couldnāt do that but I donāt know where it stands.
TX also had some kind of system where you could call and provide ātipsā turning in people who had abortions or helped people have abortions. I donāt know if thatās still a thing bc prank callers were keeping that line tied up in the early days.
I wonder how many other smaller states like OK have already banned abortion when no one was paying attention.
The rich ones have a kink about being āoutlawsā and are miffed by any advance gay people make.
Several posters on this forum (including myself) have been highly critical of her. Referring to her as a dupe would be complimentary.
I think weāve had threads here on the TX law, I wonāt rehash all the enforcement garbage.
My point was very simple that TX picked after āfetal heartbeatā which, by their definition, is around 6 weeks. FL picked 15 weeks. A big chunk of all current abortions fall between those to times. So, I was saying maps like the one above are going to start showing that kind of information. (Did you see Lucyās map?)
I did look at the map, finally.
wait, what, the drunken rapist lied to me??
Thereās a great chapter in Freakonomics about abortionās links to low socioeconomic status and this concept of āwantingā your kid and how impactful that is on how likely you are to finish HS and commit crime.
Between allowing women to abort children they donāt want and/or are unable to care for and removing lead from gas/paint you basically explain the dramatic drop in crime over the last generation.
the patchwork of states that would allow it and those that wonāt has the recently added wrinkle - civil suits allowed in state court against someone in the home state who facilitates it in another state.
The cold, cruel, calculus on abortion being 100% illegal in the US is that in 20 years crime would rise, whites would be a minority, and poverty rates would double. Of course several dozen future billionaires, movie stars, athletes, and CEOās would be born that never got a chance. This is such a hard issue to talk about in these terms.
Iām sure they do. However, Iām guessing they came to that philosophy because it supported their political beliefs, not the other way around. Scalia claimed to be a textualist, but if you read his opinion on the Heller decision, he picks and chooses when to apply those beliefs. Iām not going to say Republican appointees are more or less consistent with their judicial philosophies than Democratic appointees because my ultimate point is that if you rely on having faith in the philosophies over politics, then you are going to be very disappointed all the time.
Yes, heās more consistently conservative. Alito supported the strip searching of a 10 year old girl by police. Iām not sure why you are giving this person extra defference.
Apparently Alito went all the way back to the 1730s to find support for his position from a dude who laid out the foundation for legalized marital rape* and executed women as witches. Nice to see him sticking to his conservative principles.
*I think it was Joe Bidenās Violence Against Women Actin the 1990s that made this an actual crime.
You mean after that $5k deductible?
Why are you giving them ideas. It just means they will repeal the ACA as well.
Not exactly.

Two great examples of how we overly complicate things relative to the rest of the civilized world: abortion rights and the provision of medical care.
