That could be Franco (Casavettes) already in the get-a-way vehicle
Still classifying these as an RNN.
Monkey Man at the theater. This was Dev Patelās āmasterpieceā. He wrote, directed, produced and starred in it. The film is total chaos throughout with massive amounts of violence. Most of the violence is MMA style with some knives, other kitchen appliances, and a few guns. A lot of flashbacks to try to show why he is who he is today. There were 7 of us in the theater and the other 5 seemed to be on their phones for most of the movie, so not sure what that says.

The Zone of Interest (Max) I wanted to like this more. First of all I found the subtitles very hard to read on my TV, too many light backgrounds, so I changed over to English-auto description. Which actually helped with figuring out what was going on.
I found the concept very interesting - living an idyllic life while living next to and running a death camp. It was a very artistically made film, but too much was unanswered for me - The girl with the apples and the lighting of those scenes, was there a deeper meaning? The modern day scene, and itās timing? Hoss retching at the end?
Disclosure: Trans Lives on Screen (Netflix) I have been posting only recent movies, but in light of the trans discussion, I thought I would mention this. As a Cis male it is impossible for me to understand how Trans people might find the portrayal of Trans on film, as well as cross dressers, drag and pretenders. How things we see as innocent and funny, they see as hurtful and confusing.
I may not agree or understand with their perspective on everything but that isnāt important. I believe that beyond this being about Trans people, it can be applied for most minorities as portrayed in film
Blue Beetle (Max) I have seen it all before, unwitting person gets new powers and has too figure them out - A lot of Venom, Greatest American Hero, Spiderman. Great to have a Latin hero, but I HATED his family and what good is a Latin hero if his family are portrayed as people with no dignity or self control
OSCAR Nominated Shorts
WAR IS OVER! Inspired by the Music of John and Yoko (https://www.tokyvideo.com/es/video/war-is-over-inspired-by-the-music-of-john-and-yoko-c-2023) Was expecting more music, well done if not particularly realistic. Won Oscar animated short
Red, White and Blue (https://www.tokyvideo.com/es/video/red-white-and-blue-c-2023)
Good cast, well done a not very subtle commentary on the abortion laws
Our Uniform ( [https://www.tokyvideo.com/es/video/our-uniform-c-2023])
OK animated on Iranian school girls, I believe commenting on lack of freedom. But not really very clear on itās ultimate message
Invincible ( https://vimeo.com/911411289) Not spoiling as the description isnāt hidden anywhere, but a look inside the last days of a teens life
Need to find Pachyderme and Letter to a Pig with English subtitles
I saw the remake of Road House with Jake Gyllenhaal.
It was not as endearing as the original, lacking a lot of the little witty moments. Itās not a precise remake. There were plot points that differed, like the exclusion of the mentor bouncer.
Two stars out of 4.
ok, Iāll pass. Loved the Sam Elliot role, though also became one of my more disturbing movie moments
Bullet Train - fun
Two Golden Globe nominated animated that did not get the Oscar nom
Suzume no tojimari (Netflix) Not a big anime fan, though I find they work better in English (the spoken word flows better than the subtitles as well as just easier to watch). This grew on me as it went on. A commentary on the Japanese disasters of a dozen years ago as more an act of the supernatural than nature and that battle.
Wish (Disney+) Plot, animation and music, very forgettable, very flat. The humor was not terrible, but not engaging for the adults as it usually is. It seems this was intended as a Disney tribute, Snow White, Cinderella, Pinocchio, Beauty and The Beast primarily
We recently watch both of these.
Suzume had a bit of a Miyazaki feel, though as my wife said, a little odder. I enjoyed it for what it was but it wasnāt the best Iāve seen and Iām unlikely to remember it too much.
Wish, agree. Very meh and very forgettable. There were no songs that are likely to stick with me like many Disney offerings have at least somewhere in it.
Manchester by the Sea
Been a while since I watched this one (last time was on the plane on a flight to Brazil) and its such a realistic movie (acting by Affleck is very solid). Very moving.
Beekeeper - w/ Jason Statham. Very meh
The Bricklayer on Netflix with Aaron Eckhart as an ex-CIA agent brought in against his will to track down an old friend blackmailing the CIA, set primarily in Greece. Not very good and some pretty big plot holes. Would not recommend.
Wicked Little Letters at the theater. Set shortly after WW I, a woman (Olivia Coleman as a spinster and living under her oppressive father, Timothy Spall) begins receiving obscene anonymous letters. She believes it is her young neighbor (Jessie Buckley) who is accused and thrown in jail since she canāt make bail. The amount of profanity in the letters reaches hilarious levels as long as it doesnāt offend you. Pretty predictable, but I enjoyed it a lot.
The Braves arenāt playing tonight, so thinking about watching a movie. What does the GoA think about Once Upon a Time in Hollywood?
I think itās a pretty good movie.
I donāt think you would like it.
It meets my approval
Watched all but the last 25 minutes last night. It was getting close to bedtime so we bailed before the violence. Weāll catch the ending before the weekend is out.
Mrs. yoyo gets wound up easily and it would have difficult for her to sleep. She knows more about the ending than I do, but itās a Tarantino film so Iām expecting graphic violence.
Itās a pretty good movie and I do like it.
Jurassic Park III [on NetFlix]
I donāt try to remember much about movies I watch, makes it more fun to view them again.later.
Good!
Iām glad to be wrong about this.
However, there are still 20 minutesā¦
Violence alone wonāt turn me off to it. Weāll see. Iāll report back.
