Dave Made A Maze (2017)

OK, I really enjoyed this one. It’s not a serious movie and it has a low budget indie feel and is uneven, but despite a simple concept it is very creative. It’s excellent visually and I ended up smiling my way though most of it. While his girlfriend is away for the weekend, Dave builds a maze in his living room out of cardboard boxes. But the maze turns out to be bigger on the inside than the outside, seems to be alive, houses deadly boobytraps and a Minotaur, and Dave gets lost in there. Others go in to save him.

Some Like It Hot with Marilyn Monroe. It was just ok. Hard for me to appreciate the humor what with the whole dumb blonde routine.

Miss Meadows, a Katie Holmes film from a few years ago. She is a school teacher in a small town who takes the law into her own hands to right wrongs. Usually with a small pistol that she carries in her purse.

No Clue, a goofy noir comedy from 2013. He is a novelty good salesman and she walks into his office thinking he is a private eye and wants him to find her missing brother. He decides to help her even though he doesn’t know what he is doing and things get complicated and out of hand. He has just enough esoteric knowledge to make progress on the case.

Rurouni Kenshin: The Final, this is the second (maybe, not sure) film about the legendary swordsman from 18th century (?) Japan. I didn’t follow all of it, but the fight scenes are excellent. This was not as good as the previous movie, Rurouni Kenshin: The Beginning.

I watched “Yoga Hosers” (edited for TV version) over the weekend. Perhaps one of the worst movies ever.

Agree. Fight scenes are amazing. I’d love some BTS footage on the finale.

F9 - stretches belief beyond any point I can live with

Godzilla vs Kong – too many subplots, just meh

Cruella - I rather enjoyed this

They probably should have recalculated the need for this movie.

I see what you did there

Bored last night and watched a movie on Netflix called Prospect.

It had Pedro Pascal wearing a different kind of space helmet from the Mandalorian so I didn’t recognize him at first. It was pretty good. Space miners searching for gems on a moon in a galaxy far far away, and bad stuff happens.

The first one: needed a lot of help.
Second one: needed more editing.
Third one: needed a MacGuffin to search for.
Fourth one: needed more global, or local, or a little of each, variability

Fantastic Voyage (1966)
This could use a remake, with better CGI, and more logical sci-fi, where they can’t be unsprung. Also, even if the vehicle they’re in is destroyed by white blood cells, the atoms are still shrunk and will unshrink. Better to have a way of unshrinking outside the body, instead of some countdown.
Maybe a little backstory on the intrigue/sabotage bit.

I found it interesting that Raquel Welch was pretty much as described in the book

Just watched Annie (the one with carol burnett). It’s been one of my favorites since I was a kid.

Went to the theater and saw The Last Duel with Matt Damon, Adam Driver, Ben Affleck and Jodie Comer. Boy was it long and not particularly interesting. It is a 14th century he said/she said. It is told from three perspectives, the husband, the wife and the other guy. It was hard to care for any of the 3 men although Comer was pretty strong in her role. Seems like Affleck should consider staying behind the camera as he was just awful. I’d say save your money although it was $5 Tuesdays, so it wasn’t quite as much as it could have been.

Iron Man 2

The Mitchells vs The Machines

Very enjoyable. It’s a fairly standard cartoon plot and the action parts are frenetic, but it does a good job of mixing warmth and humor in

Saw Dune in a movie theater. First time I’ve been in a theater since the pandemic.

I was disappointed not to learn who Vorian Atriedes was.

But other than that, great movie. It’s only the first few chapters of the book, but i thought the acting was good, the special effects were perfect, and they did a good job of including enough narrative and background to tell the story without overwhelming the movie with narrative. That can be a hard line to balance when turning complex books into movies. And they picked a fine stopping point. I look forward to the next installment.

Watched Atomic Blonde with Charlize Theron as a secret agent in Berlin just as the wall is about to come down. Entertaining with some good plot twists. Soundtrack was great. Lots of different versions of big club hits from that era.

My name-sake isn’t part of the main Dune books. It’s part of the Legends of Dune prequel.

I watched Toy Story 4, which I’d not seen before, and really liked it.
