Last movie you've watched

I saw that pop up and watched the trailer. I’ll probably try to watch it soon. Thanks.

The Bourne Legacy. Unpopular opinion here, but it was better than the first three, up until the last ten minutes.

Watched Cruella today. I enjoyed it. There were several nods to 101 Dalmatians that made me happy.

I finally got around to watching Cruella on Disney+. Not too bad. Not great, but entertaining enough. I’m not sure how well it feeds into the 101 Dalmation stories, but they kinda tried.

Showed the kids The Three Amigos last week. Still holds up really well, IMO.

I agree. My daughter loves that movie (we watched it together about 6 or 7 years ago).

On Netflix, Falling Inn Love, standard rom-com, set in New Zealand. Not great, not bad.

Begin Again, a favorite of mine with Mark Ruffalo, Keira Knightley, Catherine Keener, Hailee Steinfeld, James Cordon, Adam Levine and CeeLo Green. Ruffalo is a down on his luck record producer and he hears Knightley singing at an open mic the day after she breaks up with her long time boyfriend, Levine. They record an album set outside all over New York City.

Cruela - very enjoyable movie in Disney’s never ending attempt to redeem its Villains.

Kate- on Netflix. Fairly predictable and uncompelling plot, but good fight scenes make it a decent action movie if you’re into that kinda thing.

Found I had access to he Tribeca Film channel and watched two really good movies last night.

Still Life - A guy (Eddie Marsan) is a Council employee for a small town or county and he is tasked with trying to find any relatives of people who die alone. Marsan is perfect for the roll. His life is dull routine sprinkled with the occasional funeral service where he is the only one in attendance. He is ultimately downsized and spends the remainder of the movie looking for any relatives of the last person who died alone. He finds out a lot about himself and the guy who died. He actually has luck finding people. The ending, while perfect, just gutted me.

The Giant Mechanical Man - This had a much more well know cast with Jenna Fischer, Chris Messina, Malin Akerman, Topher Grace, Bob Odenkirk and others. It is another quiet character study that I found charming and entertaining. The Giant Mechanical Man in the title is a street performer in silver paint, silver clothes and he uses stilts.

Greenberg: Quirky kinda funny comedy starring Ben Stiller, Greta Gerwig and Jennifer Jason Leigh about dating inept singles getting together. I bought it from Blockbuster for 1.99 but had never watched it.

Z-O-M-B-I-E-S. We were looking for a Halloween-y (read: meant for kids, not really scary) movie we hadn’t seen. It was …not good, and yet, there is a 2 already out and a 3rd planned.

I am Mother on Netflix. Excellent science fiction, well thought out and executed.

We had a lazy Saturday morning yesterday. Watched a couple of old Disney movies.

Candleshoe - this was one of my favorites from childhood. Jodie Foster plays a troubled teen who gets caught up in a scam to bulk an old lady out of her money. With David Niven playing multiple roles as the caretaker of the estate. And it’s a treasure hunt too. My kids love this one

Blackbeard’s Ghost - this one is pretty silly but it’s a fun one. Peter Ustinov is delightful in the title role and Dean Jones and Suzanne Pleshette are the love interests.

Loved both of those as a kid. I think we’ve introduced our kids to Blackbeard’s Ghost, but still need to revisit Candleshoe

These can be hit-or-miss. Our kids absolutely hated Herbie the Love Bug.

Cat from Outer Space and Computer Wore Tennis Shoes they liked better though.

The Inventor. Very timely, i held off reading about the case in the WSJ until I’d seen the movie. It’s a good movie, but it feels weird that all these people who are now in court were interviewed in it. Kind of too real, you know.

But a very well done documentary. And it’s easy to feel the charisma of the beautiful young protagonist.

Watched a couple of movies trending on Netflix.

Kate - not bad but not that good either. A mix of Crank and Hanna. Mary Elizabeth Winstead was the wrong woman for the lead, she had almost no characteristic that made us pull for her.

Level 16 - A weird sci-fi movie, sort of. Girls are housed in what appears to be an orphanage and a lot of “1984” type stuff happens during their lives. Why are they being raised this way? Never see the outside world due to sure death by poison or something, aren’t taught to read or write. The truth is a little novel.

I watched “The Third Man” the other day.
While the cinematography was pretty good (very noir-ish), it might have been a little harder to figure out the ending if they showed flashbacks of Harry Lime (Orson Welles) alive.

Obviously Harry Lime was The Third Man, because Orson Welles is Harry Lime, and the movie opens at Harry Lime’s funeral. They’re not going to advertise Orson Welles as Harry Lime in a movie where he is dead from the start, and NEVER show him in the movie. So flashbacks to get people off-track (like Citizen Kane in which the titular character dies, and the whole movie is pretty much a flashback), and then BAM he’s actually still alive!

I thought it still worked OK in the sense that you can be an outside observer watching Joseph Cotton figure it out.

Have watched way more movies recently (past two weeks) than I normally do, because I decided to just go ahead and watch without my spouse instead of waiting to see if they want to watch a movie (rare, they prefer TV series to movies) and the same thing I want to watch (almost never). Some of these I watched with my kids, some I watched alone. Hadn’t seen any of them before.

In Her Shoes (2005)
Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist (2008)
The Terminal (2004)
Evelyn (2002)
Cinderella (2021)
The Starling (2021)

ETA: I knew I watched more, but I forgot what they were, checked the other apps to finish the list. Only two of the below were new to me (the most recent two).
Edward Scissorhands (1990)
The Upside (2017)
Corpse Bride (2005)
A Wrinkle in Time (2018)
The Black Cauldron (1985)
