Last movie you've watched

Watching Mary Poppins with my 3 year old London granddaughter (her favourite movie). Great movie.

Julie Andrews is awesome but I love the cameos from oldtimers Arthur Treacher, Elsa Lanchester, Ed Wynn and Jane Darwell.

And Dick Van Dyke is still going strong at 100!

London Calling on Hulu. Recent release. Another weak Josh Duhamel flick. He’s a hitman who kills the wrong guy. He’s on the run. He comes to LA from London to work for a local mob guy. Mob guy wants Josh to toughen up his son who LARPs.

Desert Warrior at the theater, starring Anthony Mackie, one of my wife’s favorites. An action movie set in about 500 AD in Arabia. Almost fell asleep twice. Boy was it dull and the story telling was very weak. I was distracted by the set dressing as well. The clothes looked out of place, the shoes, the saddles, etc. Not worth the watch IMO.

Anyone wearing a watch?

I didn’t see any, nor any Starbucks cups.

Michael : (The new biopic) Hip_tiger_wife and I loved it.

The movie with John Travolta as an angel or the biopic of Michael Jackson?

biopic

Legendary (2010) 3.5 / 5 – John Cena is the estranged brother who helps a nerdy boy become a better wrestler. Very much a Rocky-esque movie that had decent acting and was a fun watch.

That’s What I Am (2011) 4.5/5 – Ed Harris is a very popular 8th grade English teacher in 1965 California school who pairs a struggling student with a smart student for a class project. The movie tackles prejudice related more to “middle school” politics (racial prejudice is tangential) and false accusations (the teacher gets accused of being gay). Very well done and very well acted. Had a lot of the “Christmas Story” and “The Sandlot” feel to it in its presentation.

Cover Up (1949) - interesting noir insurance story

Wuthering Heights (HBO) If you want something true to the novel, avoid this at all costs. If you want a well constructed tragic romance, no, sorry. Style over substance and really no redeeming value. Maybe designed to fool people who think WH is a romance and don’t understand it is a psychological thriller.

The Bad Guys 2 (Netflix) It was ok, Thought even for a cartoon, the end was absurd. I like Zootopia so much more.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple (Netflix) A different type of zombie movie, quite a change from its direct predecessor. I enjoyed it and it looks like the series will continue. I think it is ging full circle, but I don’t remember the first one well enough.

O Agente Secreto (Disney/Hulu) It was well done, but overly long and took about half the film to figure out was going on. Also, not particularly satisfying at the end either. But good film making and held my interest.

The Testament of Ann Lee (Disney/Hulu) Historical look at a woman who helped launch the Shaker religion. A bit all over the place, long and confusing and you would think any religion that doesn’t allow pleasures of the flesh is doomed to die out.

Elio (Disney) Maybe the kids enjoyed it. Kind of bored me, except maybe for a 1/2 hour sequence near the end. Possibly my least favorite Pixel - either this or the Dinosaur one

The Fantastic Four: First Steps (Disney/ Hulu) I thought this was a really good entry. A feel like more than a superhero movie. The humor was good without being extreme. My one complaint is I felt the public was too quick to turn on the group to surrender the baby. I get it if it builds and they get more scared, but they were offering up off threats.

Marty Supreme (HBO) I liked this, Off beat, quirky. A bit all over the place, but I enjoyed it

Nuremberg (Netflix) It was good, but I thought it could have been great. Well acted, hopefully good history, but the emotional hook was missing for me.

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning (Prime) I have said before MI is my favorite of the Action/Spy franchises. This was good, but the fun aspects, the humor were lacking. Speaking of these franchises I assume another Fast and Furious is due out. I hate these long waits between Parts.

Cheech and Chong’s Last Movie (HBO) If you grew up with them, it is a good documentary. If you didn’t I doubt it would mean anything to you.

Dust Bunny (HBO) A different type of horror film. Good cast, off beat.

Now You See Me: Now You Don’t (Starz) All in all I never loved the franchise and this was a weak entry. Confusing, forced and I just didn’t care

Christy (HBO) Solid biopic on female boxer Christy Martin. Well done, but also didn’t hook me. With most boxing films I love the training scenes, this had a lot of fighting scenes and then big gaps in the chronology.

Day of the Fight (HBO) Follows, an elite fighter making a comeback, on the day of his fight. I liked it, though felt the end a bit too contrived

The Housemaid (Starz) Well done psychological thriller. Won’t say more, but it appears there will be a sequel

Another rewatch of 12 Monkeys. Brad Pitt is very good in it.

“Don’t Look Up”

Mildly amusing.

The Sheep Detectives at the theater. Pretty fun watch. Bret Goldstein was hilarious. I didn’t expect it was so much for older kids. Would recommend for 10+.

Erased on YouTube. Another Aaron Eckhart action flick and no better than others. Kind of a waste.

Mrs. VA and I also saw this in the theater. We both thoroughly enjoyed it. Mrs. VA said that it reminds her of the classic Disney movies from the 70’s (think Don Knotts/Tim Conway movies).

Agree with the general age recommendation since death is a topic that is addressed (but, IMO, addressed very, very well; especially given the main plot).

Really loved when Sabastian was describing “the church”. I’m a Christian, FWIW

Although, the funniest thing for me was that the new Masters of the Unvierse movie was one of the trailers . . . and He-Man is one of the main characters in this movie.

My wife & I just watched the Devil wears Prada 2 in Rio.

Very enjoyable movie. One of the few times I thought the sequel got better vs the original.

In the Grey at the theater. I wasn’t sure what to expect. It was a Guy Ritchie film with Henry Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal as sort of fixers. Felt very much like The Gentlemen. Very procedural at the beginning with all of the required set-up. The back have is a lot of action. If you like Guy Ritchie, you should enjoy this one.
