“Batman Returns” – HBOMax
Eh.
Not sure how Catwoman has a superpower of not dying when shot at a few times, nor when she is electrocuting Schreck (not the ogre). Was she reincarnated as part-cat or something?
DC Comics heroes/villains generally don’t have superpowers, though I’m no expert. Seems most are fucked up by man-made chemicals or merely psychotic. Superman excepted, of course.

Might watch the Val/Nicole one. For Nicole, though Val is a pretty good actor. Carrey is peak weird, and TLJ is along for the ride.

TLJ allegedly hate’s Carrey because of this movie.

“Race” (Netflix) about Jesse Owens and Olympics and things.
It was alright.
Will have to check what parts are embellished.

Would have been more impactful to show more shit he had to take after the Games, because of his, you know, “Race.”

Did they mention FDR’s snub?

During the “end notes.”

In his wiki there are claims (none publicly) that Hitler shook his hand, saluted him, sent him a picture of himself, etc. So, he wasn’t all that bad. (/s, in case this isn’t obvious)

he was surely bragging that he had a Black friend, so can’t be a racist

Fate Is The Hunter (1964) - Glenn Ford airline crash mystery

Mass (2021, Netflix) – 5/5

A very good single-setting (more or less) drama where two sets of parents agree to meet and talk over their kids several years after a significant tragedy that affected both of their kids took place.

Very well done with a subtle message that was very well presented and appropriate symbolism present.

Extremely well acted.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 at the theater. Not sure they needed to make this. It was fine, but didn’t do much for me.
Playground on YouTube. This was a weird one. Apparently it was a TV series (10 episodes) in 2017 that was wrapped into a movie. They just added all the 10 episodes into one two hour ish film. Never saw the series. It felt like there were gaps and I see why now. It revolves around a school for assassins, think high school.
The Wizard of the Kremlin at the theater. I thought from the trailers that this was about the rise of Putin, but instead the wizard is a different person, played by Paul Dano. It covers his scheming in the political circles of the Kremlin. It does cover some of Putin’s rise from the FSB to Tsar, as he is referred to in the film. But the film is much more that that. Not that well done, very helter skelter feel for me. Jude Law was great as Putin though.

I’ve started putting on old action movies before bed. Basically, interesting enough to watch, but not interesting enough that they keep me up. Over the last couple weeks I’ve watched several of the Mortal Kombat movies, The Mummy (original + returns), Batman Forever and Terminator. I also started Constantine, but the beginning was too creepy for a bedtime movie.

DC universe movies are probably excellent to sleep to.

Watched on a plane: Sunlight, directed by Nina Conti in which she also stars, along with Shenoah Allen. I’d never have bothered if I hadn’t seen Nina Conti’s Monkey character before - she’s a a stand up comic and ventriloquist and Monkey is one of her glove puppets and I think she’s superb. So I was intrigued when I saw that she’d made a film.

It’s a story of two damaged people, or possibly one damaged person and a monkey damaged on the inside, taking a road trip in New Mexico, one to dig up his dead father and the other to start a banana boat franchise. The comedy is often dark and there are so many places where it could have gone wrong, but it works. Definitely recommended, especially if you are looking for something different.

The Matrix

Had never seen it. I was unimpressed. I suspect some of the special effects/camera things were cool in 1999. But if it was supposed to be entertaining otherwise, I flat missed that

The bullet time effect looked incredible when it came out. Lots of movies have imitated it since. I think it’s right up there with empire strikes back, T2 and Jurassic park for movies that blow you away with their special effects (at the time of viewing).
